    Scale Effect on Colours/Paintschemes

Hi All what is the general consensus regarding Colour Scale Effect when it comes to profiling? How did you guys treat your colours? Take for instance the Luftwaffe RLM colours in the Simmers Paintshop swatches have these already had some kind of lightening to compensate for the effect?

    Cheers

Clint, yer dealing with two different issues here. If yer doing scale models you need to compensate for scale effect. Here the sizes we work in make it a non-issue. Use the 100% chips you have. I've got a chart showing all this scale stuff...but really, only model builders need to concern themselves with this issue.

Cool, Cheers for clearing that up Otter. Well that makes things a bit easier.

Totally agree with Otter. No matter at all with color profiles.

    Re: Scale Effect on Colours/Paintschemes

    Thankyou also Ugo,

Right now for the next question:

How do you guys find the Simmers Swatches? I usually use them but I have found the RLM 70,71 to be slightly on the dark side. How do you find the other colours?

I have found another set of PDF's listing RGB values for Japanese, Italian, Luftwaffe, RAF, and Finnish paint schemes compiled and matched by W.S.Marshall?

Do you think it would be a good idea to post them to see what you guys think of them? Perhaps the experts in their chosen air force fields could pass comment? I don't want it to seem like i'm undermining the great work that was undertaken to compile the Simmers swatches. What do you think?

    Regards

    Clint

s'cuse me whilst i pull my hair out!

colour definition is a swine in real life, then add colour scale effect, which otter quite rightly pointed out was for scale models mainly, now you wish to see if colour swatches are ok, we can't even agree on real paint, so what chance do we have in profile painting.

simons works is fantastic, but to me it is too greyed out, but to everyone else it is ok, so it is a case of go for it and work on the feedback

please take this as advice not a nasty comment which it reads like

    Hi John!

I'm not sure if there is another Simon at this board, but if you mean my profiles please explane me why they are too greyed out? I just use Luftwaffe colours. The looked like this, sorry. My screen is well calibrated for printing. Yours as well?

    Clint,
checked the Luftwaffe colours you have attached. Some look good, but some you can forget. (RLM 74/75 for example) You should compare with colour charts of Merricks book published by Classic Publication.

    Re: Scale Effect on Colours/Paintschemes

    Cheers Simon

I might have to pick that book up. I've got Luftwaffe Colours, 1935-1945 by Michael Ullmann which has some colour chips in the back, would be interesting to compare them. Unfortunately I cannot say that my monitors are calibrated all that good so I shall need all you guys help with my colours.

    Thanks

    Clint
