    Hello everyone - an introduction

    Hi all,

My name is Mark and I've been lurking here for a while now. The standard of artwork I see on this forum is astounding and, although I can't match most of it, I thought it was about time I said "hello" and show you some of my stuff.

I got into profiling by accident about 18 months ago when I was acting as a sort of technical advisor for a book on the Hawker Hunter. I ended up drawing the scale plans for that book and a couple of pages of colour scrap views of the nose to show some of the various squadron badges. Incidentally, Hunters really are my 'thing' so if anyone needs any info on them let me know.

My first real profiles were for a book on the Mosquito FB.VI published late last year. I've learned a lot since I did those but I'm quite pleased with them as a first effort. I also drew scale plans for the book too.

I've just finished some artwork (profiles and 4-views) for a new Hornet book to be published any day now. It really is a lovely looking aeroplane. Such a shame none are left.

Anyway, just wanted to say "hello" and thanks for all the good work and knowledge I've picked up here so far.

Attached are a couple of Hornets, a Mossie and a WIP Hunter and Chipmunk.

    Cheers, Mark

Re: Hello everyone - an introduction

Wow, what a wonderful welcome! Thank you all.

I'm not sure I've got much more to show you. As I said I haven't been at this for long and only as illustrations for a few books. As such some of my profiles have a lot of smaller details left off as they just don't show up when in print. I really must go back and add more detail some time.

Anyway, unless you want pages and pages of Hornets and Mosquitos this is about all I have left to show!

Here's another Hornet (an NF.21 this time), another Mosquito, one of my Mossie line drawings and one of the Hunter 'nose art' illustrations that started me off. This one was adapted as a gift for a lovely chap who was an ex-Royal Netherlands Air Force Hunter pilot who helped me by translating some RNLAF accident reports (N-217 was the last Hunter he flew before retiring). There's a lot wrong with it but it was amongst my first efforts so I blame utter inexperience and ignorance!

    Thank again, Mark

Welcome Q...fine work thus far. Hope you'll be a regular part of our straight jacket club. We'll soon have you just as mad as the rest of us are.

"Action, not words"....hmnnnnn, first time I've seen that but it's not surprising since my regiment was in large part responsible for liberating Holland in WW2. Our motto? "Facta non Verba". Action, not words. It has been our unit motto since its formation in the early 1900's. Nice to see The Hornet. Ya got a Whirlwind on yer "to do" list?

Hi Q, you’ve got 2 of the most elegant twins captured really well there.
The colours and form look really strong too.
If I was going to say anything at all it would be to balance the shadows with the areas casting those shadows, like the stabilisers are darker underneath than the shadows they are casting. Could be simple as darken up the shadows?

Really attractive work and looking forward to seeing more.
