I like the idea of Blowhard.
Maybe we can start with a basic list. Find out what we agree on, and what not.
Then try to find what is best, and why, according to us.
Clint: Nice 70/71 example....
but what about RLM 74/75/76??I think this one has also differences, but it is a base camo combination for the 1943/44?

If we are serious on doing this, we should probably make several threads: one for general talk on colour discussions, and then individual colour threads. Might even be worth having a specific section at some point.
I also think that all colour discussions should be posted with pictures so that we can have a better idea of what we're dealing with.
And, to answer Blowhard's PC-10 question, I think that yes, we will probably end up creating a set of "acceptable" values in most cases. We know there are no definitive answers so defining an acceptable panel of tones seems like a good idea to me.
Thats it Serval some nice for and against discussions with constructive reasons why we think a colour should look. Also For anyone wanting to get some other colour samples for Luftwaffe discussions Vol 1 of K. Merricks, Luftwaffe Camouflage and Markings 1933 -1945 is selling second hand for around £200but vol 2 is still available from Ian Allen Here for only £20 and it contains two sets of large colour paint chips apparently mixed to the same formula and by the same company that was creating the original paint during WW2. I have Ullmans book also and the chips are different? So its interesting to see how two of the worlds leading experten on Luftwaffe colours cannot agree also. The Merrick book I very highly recommend. But like John says I think these still could do with some discussion. Peter K: Thanks It would be very interesting in seeing what you see on your screen as mine is untrustworthy?
Agreed Gamary. I allready had in mind creating a seperate section for color discussion.
Perhaps with separate sub areas for what time period and then maybe further separate sub-sub areas for Nationality?
Can be arranged.
I´d say:
pre 1935
1935-1945
post 1945
Nationality depending on the period. Say 4 or 5 major ones and then a forum for the rest.

Sounds good! This could in time turn into a very useful feature for every type of aviation artist on the planet. I'm interested to see how it turns out![]()
BH,
i might have known, trust you to come up with that one, thats even worse than RLM 84
as far as i remember they never did nail the true colour down, just like you said. i am giving you 10/10 for this, it's a brilliant post
as for a new forum section, go for it, should throw up some gems.
