Re: Cascavel - Light Armored Car

    Hi JG,

It's not your English that is the problem, it's my Australian vernacular! Sorry for the confusion.

What I should have said is: The canvas cover on the main gun barrel is very realistic and looks very good. Well done!

    Grubby.

    No need for excuses Grubby

Ok John, Grubby and Inkworm ... thanks for those tips and advices with those tires.

Here is the new version of the theird moke-up, with new tires ...
used the micro tutorial from John and added a bit of dark and highlight to creat the 3d deformation of the lower part of the tire... and ok... cut a bit of the tire too.. can't resist, hope it appear to be realistic:

Joel, the reason why most of us post here is so that everyone can poke holes in our work. When they can't find more holes to poke in it, you're ready to go public. It saves a lot of embarassment later on, and you know these are well meaning friends pushing you along. I'm no expert in armour, but your break lines seem too crisp to me. Maybe dull them down a bit with a 3 pixel gaussian blur. Great work...but there's no wings or propellers on it and with all that steel I think it's too heavy to get off the ground.

Re: Cascavel - Light Armored Car

It's not the lack of wings that is the issue, look at the amount of drag the turret will cause, that is where the real problem lies. And the radar return would be huge.

One thing that may help is adding some texture to the panels, I've never seen a military vehicle looking that well sprayed, maybe creating a new layer, adding some noise, a quick gaussian blur and changing to overlay or something would give it a bit more depth, also having a single flat colour for a panel isn't quite how it works, some variation in shading will lift it just that little bit more.

    Coming along nicely though

Otterskin: I can cleary see how muck my draws improoved since I a started posting here(can't say the same about the english...), with the help of this comunity...

Inkworm: I was thinking about that texture but was in doubt.. those ones I'm posting now aren't "real things"... but profiles of engeneering mock-ups... they are 1:1 scale studies before the construction of the prototype.. they were made of wood... but studying the few photographs I can't see a wood grain or anything else that could confirm the wood soul...
the work was so good that it realy looks metal...

I think I will take yours sugestion and draw then as if they were "real" metal working tanks.

For now the second mock-up study with a bit of texture on the tires and the panel lines with a bit of gaussian blur:

Tyres really do look good now and wasn't aware it was a wooden mock up

Re: Cascavel - Light Armored Car

"Tyres really do look good now" - Thanks Inkworm

This is the first mock-up (and the last one), added some textures to the "metal".. trying to get the correct look of a "militar" not so care spray paint (embossed aspect ... I think you know...)

Try to break too the "bright new" look, but without making it dirt or used... is a moke-up... it can't get weathered by use or climate ... so I still a little lost...

Let's make one thing perfectly clear....it's OtterKINS...not Otterskins. We don't like being skinned and besides, it's illegal. We're an endangered species. Gammy, there's only one of me...not two...so it's Otter, not Otters. I'm glad we got that straightened out.

Joel, are you trying to reproduce a wooden model, or a life like representation as if it was already in production? I think your aiming at a production model. If that is the case, you have the lines down pat so now it's time to play. Get it dirty. Chip the paint. Make it look used and abused. It's not wood, but fabricated steel designed to kill. Surface texturing at least is essential. Good start on the tires by the way....which don't look like wood. Occasionaly John is good for something other than being cranky.

No can do. You are Otterkins2. Therefore, there must be a Otterkins 1. Maybe even a Beta version, too. Simple logics, really. And I think I saw an article somewhere on wikipedia about the big you. Also know as Otterking the 2nd.

I'll try to be more careful, promised.
