Here's a profile I made a couple of years ago for the Japanese Secret Projects book. I thought I'd post it here.

It's a bit unusual in being "2.5D". Basically I built a 3D model for it and rendered this from the side, but the model was somewhat incomplete and the missing details were added in Photoshop. The idea was to save time doing it this way, which I didn't!

O, for the record it's a Yokosuka MXY7 Model 22 (Oka 22), the turbojet propelled version of the infamous MXY7 Model 11 (Oka 11) rocket-powered kamikaze plane.

    Hope you like it!

    Cheers,

    Hi Ronnie,

    Who pays you this cost?

Thanks very much for your kind replies!

Baron, Supah is right. I portrayed this aircraft in the state it was when it was shipped to the USA in 1946. It had been 'laying about' for a number of months and looked pretty beaten up.
It's a bit similar to live bombs, which often look really weathered when first hung on an aircraft (and needless to say they are rarely used twice! ).

Hehe indeed the colour differences are intentional. They mark a difference in paint used on metal (fuselage) versus wooden parts (flying surfaces). If I am not mistaken the same pigment was used, but the composition of the paint was different for each material, resulting in colour variations.

Having badly underquoted on this job, I guess I was the one who paid the price in sheer man hours!
However it was a good exercise and I did more 2.5D profile since, which went a lot faster. Admittedly some where a good bit easier, like this one, also for the Japanese Secret Projects book. This missile profile took only 2.5 hours from start to finish. I suppose it could have been more detailed, but since reference material on this missile was close to nil I didn't want to 'invent' stuff.

Thanks again guys! I am very glad the Oka 22 profile is so well received. There's some serious talent on this forum, so it means a lot to me!

    Hello

So you're also one of the many idealists!
But really a very good artist.

    Greetings!

Well making the quotes / bids is always difficult, especially when it's for larger squadron prints contracts. You don't know the budget OR what other bidders there are and what they are bidding. There are ofcourse ways to know but those are illegal!

Depends on the country I think? Or do you mean agreeing on prices between competitors, which is probably illegal in most countries. Not that it is necessarily immoral, depending on the circumstances...

    Hi Ronnie, and all readers,

    I concretises my question.
I am always interested ... Who pays for the many intense work hours that are required for creating such a profile?

Most publishers do it all as cheap as possible... with absolute top quality.

    Greetings

Well generally speaking it is illegal in The Netherlands for airforce employees to allow bidders access to others bidders quotes. Price fixing is ofcourse illegal in the entire EU.

Okay, didn't know that the profile shows the state 1946.
