Betrand, if you read this, I have couple of questions for you:
    1. How strong defined were these camo schemes? Were these stricly regulated by the government rules?

    2. Did you ever try to find a font that is a closest match for the tail inscription codes among what we currently have digitized?

This one should please gamary .
    Here's a bird from 2e Escadrille, Groupe de Chasse II/7, Armee de l'Air de l'Armistice, France, July/August 1940:

Now the colors are more historical + some 3D/highlight/shadows updated...
Please note that the Vichy stripes were not applied to the tail/nose by that date. Only the markings were changed.
Actually, I'm still not satisfied with the panel lines effects... I'll try to rework them when I have more time...

    Beautiful, inspirational work, Anton.

Really like the overall metallic sheen of these as well as the subtlety of the light and grime on the roundel and squadron markings.

Still think that the highlight on the canopy and the glass are to strong and are bleeding into each other, resulting in the outline getting a little lost.

Sorry for answering so late... Haven't been on SPS in days.

    Looks very good Anton.

Well, we hadn't been defeated until the end of July...

Cc. your question. The camouflage patterns were fairly loose in their application. Generally speaking in France, we have very strong laws and regulations, which nobody gives a damn about. This applies (to a lesser extent) to the military.

Cc. the tail markings, I've never found a perfect font, and these varied according to the manufacturer. They did tend to be simple fonts, so it's generally not too complicated to find one that matches or can be easily modified. As for tactical codes and numbers, it's a bit like what you have in the VVS... There are many variations.

If you want to add this one on BBA, it will be more than welcome!

    Re: Dewoitine D.520

    Thanks for the comments, guys.
For those who interested, here are couple more birds.
This one is №139 of Escadrille 1 of Groupe De Chasse I/III form Douala Airfield, Cameroun, 1940:

And this "shark-mouthed" №273 "White 3" is of Escadrille 4 of Groupe De Chasse II/7 from Meaux-Esblu, 1940:

P.S.: yes, James. I agree. Please note that it's still not 100% I wanted, so I'm still working to improve my D.520 template.
P.S.2: gamary, please check your e-mail...

Amazing! just one note: you should change the weathering and flaking off paint at each plane. I know that is very fussy, but if you show 2 different planes next to each other this is noticeable.

    Cheers,

    Very nice indeed!

An easy way to do what Simon suggests is to make one very weathered layer and mask most of it out but vary for each plane. This way you only have to draw the weathering once - masking is very quick.
