WOW! Really nice!!!! I kind of miss doing skins![]()
Some time ago I started working on some skins for my favorite WWI plane:
The Albatros D.V, for RoF (Rise of Flight)...
(You may remember some pics I posted in BLOWHARD's Albatros thread).
From the template created, I tried to make some new generic default skins for the D.Va in RoF,
in order to address many mistakes the current defaults have.
One thing led to another and now I'm in the making of a brand new "Johannisthal Mod", for the D.V-D.Va (and not only)
like the one we created with Graf and JFM for the D.III.
I've been studying to death old pics and contemporary research essays, about the hue of the colours used originally
and tried to best adapt all these into RoF's world...
I have to say I feel pretty pleased with my results...![]()
This Mod using a new, modified "universal" normal map, will give as accurate as possible, (within RoF's 3d model's limitations),
external models for practically any D.V-D.Va variant.
(the FM will remain the same, only the looks will vary).
Here are samples of what I have so far:
Albatros D.V camo
Albatros D.V lozenge
Albatros D.V hack details
Albatros D.Va camo
Albatros D.Va lozenge
Edited normal map underside detail on D.Va

FAST AND BULBOUS!
Thanks Dave!
A nice comment from a true master is very much appreciated...
Remember asking you about that rigging chart?
I finally made one from scratch out of the photos Jim provided.
BTW, do you know what that inscription reads on the OAW D.Va?
I think the first word is hier:here
any clue about the he second?![]()

I'm pretty sure it's something like lift or trestle here. I think there are variation in wording though, let me check when I get home.BTW, do you know what that inscription reads on the OAW D.Va?

I'd love to see your rigging chart. If you don't mind sharing it, can you PM it to me please?![]()

I'm afraid my chart wouldn't be any good for you,
as I believe you're working in higher resolution than my 2048x2048 skin's template...
Anyway here it is in it's actual size:

Yep, too small. But I guess to do it bigger you would have needed better photos which seem to not exist
It does look good at that size though
I looked through my notes. It seems IdFlieg list hier anheben or hold, hier anfassen or lift and hier unterstützen or support. I think you can rule out hier unterstützen because it looks longer than the stencil in the photo. But the photo doesn't seem to resemble either anheben or anfassen. Hmmmm....
FAST AND BULBOUS!
Thanks Dave!
Could it be behandeln or handhaben
meaning something like: lift lever here?
I think I should apply to my German friend and fellow Albatros lover, Olham for confirmation...

I thought that the first letter of the word seems either a "b" or "h"...
So I came up with the above words through Google translator.
Olham, said to me that they "Both make absolutely no sense in this matter"
and he proposed instead:
Hier hochheben ! (Lift up here!)
but it's pure guesswork by his side...
He has also seen and is pretty positive about:
Hier anheben ! (Lift here!)
Hier aufbocken ! (Jack up here!)
but...![]()

I know what you're going throughIt could just as easily be due to the poor photo and not be any of the above. It's SO maddening to see that something is there but to not be able to see it good enough
