    Re: Im going to Boston.

The funny thing is that you and I used the same (your) line-art for our interpretations of the Boston.

The only real difference is that I added the 3 flat glass panels that are evident under the nose but are absent from most drawings.

That and I have a slightly flatter rear engine nacelle, I have no idea why that is, but I did this part of the drawing a good 6 months ago and may have had reason to then, I dunno, but I will re-check my references.

I can see your point re the "gun bulge" as its drawn, its a bit of an optical illusion as I have drawn it to incorporate the way it blends with the rest of the fairing and once it has some shade/volume it should prove to be about right.

Your dead right about the shape of the wing root as a matter of fact its the one area that I have made a departure from the base line-art.

I seem to have elected to sit my wing a little higher on the nacelle for reasons that aren't immediately apparent, again will look into it. Having said that I usually do these things for a reason.

As always, I appreciate any feedback.

I think this may be a rhetorical question, but I'll play anyway.

Because even although Boston/Havoc's aren't exactly thick on the ground, they are relatively common in comparison to the Maryland, do any still exist?

Besides I have the added advantage of being able to visit a 1:1 scale example just about anytime I wish. makes gathering reference material quite a bit easier than scouring the net.

    Re: Im going to Boston.

the one you are using for actuall reference is the OZ bird,

for some strange reason the fairing is a gentle curve, probably easier to make when they did the restoration

why do you do the parts in a different colour, this really blows my mind, takes me back to my hippy days "far out man"

    Maryland, do any still exist?
    That's a good question!
A quick search on Wikipedia (it's got to be true )
Although the Baltimore was produced in greater numbers than any other Martin design except the B-26 Marauder, with over 2,100 produced, not one aircraft has survived intact, though the wreckage of several is known to exist.
    That's too bad

    Re: Im going to Boston.

I've had to make a few changes to reconcile what I thought were differences between the line-art that I used, the reference images that I have at hand and reality as I see it. Here's where I'm at.

Prop is a placeholder, borrowed from my Dauntless project.

As usual everything is subject to change.

If anybody has a period image of the area behind the nacelle and in front of what is currently a black oval on my image I would love to see it.

The difference between most (not all) line-art and the RAAFM's beautifully restored example is perplexing me somewhat right now.

    Re: Im going to Boston.

because it is a restored aircraft, nicely done but not accurate,
this wing fillet problem appears only on this aircraft, all period images show the kinked type, very strange

will switch on the HD and see what i can find for the black area
