Interesting approach, do you do it all vector or move to raster later and what's the vector app, coral or illy?

Not complicated or crazy, I work in a similar way, do all the flat stuff, outlines, stencils, rivets, panel lines in Illustrator and then import the whole lot as paths or smart objects into photoshop. Though I do add large areas of colour in photoshop instead of illy.
Which sounds quite similar to your method but everyone has a very different way of achieving the same results.

Itīs not crazy.
You need curves anyway ... so its easier to make it in AI or Corell, resize as you need (or want) and then export to PS.
But for me I easier to do all colour, shadowing and lightening works in PS![]()
