    Re: HS-123

The photos probably will muddy the water because each aircraft may have had a different pattern depending on who had free reign to paint them without a specific guide or document for them to adhere to? It's going to be next to impossible to see the different 70/71 segments on Blk & white photos so I'd just make a pattern as best you can from available photos and change it slightly each time. Put it this way who is gonna tell you your wrong. Do the guys writing the books not have the Hs123 manuals or reference material to give you some idea? Good luck dude.

    Re: HS-123

Hold your horses Inky. This topic on TOCH is focused on a discussion about whether the Hs123 had a single upper surface colour either 70 or 71. Or a made up upper surface pattern of 70 & 71. To be honest with you both sides of the argument have valid points. No one can seem to find any photographic proof that a 2 tone scheme was in use at any point in this aircrafts lengthy career. Although it seems implausible that an aircraft would not have a splinter camo it's not impossible. Perhaps because there was not an RLM sanctioned pattern to work from maybe they did opt for one colour overall. I would certainly get hold of the new Kagero Hs123 book to see if they offer any info on a 2 tone scheme. Looking at this review here it appears that they have not found evidence of a 2 tone scheme for their profiles but only single RLM 71 upper surface colour. I would think that if they had even a single photo that gives a hint of a 70/71 scheme they would have done a profile showing it. So you might be in luck and only have to slap one colour on the upper-surfaces. John what do you reckon?

Don't worry I'm holding my horses as I'm redrawing the external tank mounts anyway right now.

Thanks for the research, it is a big help as I seem to be doing most of the visual research for the book.

John's on the bacardi right now so don't ask him anything complicated

I've had a look around but the photos are so shitty of this aircraft that it's difficult to come to any solid conclusions. I'm interested to see if you can find anything to add mate.

The Kagero book doesn't seem to shed any new light on the matter but there is some good stuff on this forum not that it clears up the scheme issue.

And regarding the photo, it's wing shadow...it goes on the inside of the pilots hatch which is open.
