Great job on the bare Mustang, mate! I gotto tell you off for your star&bar on the other one though...!!
See attached. Also don't forget the top of the disc should appear "shorter" as the fuselage curves away.

Btw, the Mustang photos on that Flickr link are official USAF photos. You can download thousands and thousands (over 88,000 and counting!) of them at high resolution, freely from Fold3 - Historical military records
    More specifically: http://www.fold3.com/title_495/wwii_..._force_photos/
A search for "P-51D" already yields 400+ results! An absolutely fantastic resource for anything USAAF.

I'll agree with what's been said about the canopy. It looks a little shallow. There were several variations, so like Ronnie said check your subject.

It looks like you have a circle and some text there, but there is no filler cap for the fuselage fuel tank. There should be another static ground port right behind it, too. (These are typically not seen on restored Mustangs)

Overall, I think it looks great!

For some reason it's excessively hard to find a good wartime picture of the port Jarink mentions, so I'll show a restored example instead:

    The text reads: GROUND HERE.

Not all wartime birds had this, though, as this photo demonstrates. Although on close inspection, perhaps the port is there (note the dot) but it's unpainted for some reason.

Jarink, do you really mean to say that?!

I suspect that the absence of the static ground port markings on some wartime Mustangs had everything to do with the removal of the top O/D paint. The hole obviously still remains.

Just want to double check on the basic size and shape of the 108 Gal paper tank. Seems to be some different types out there though.

    This should answer your question:
Aircraft N74190 (1944 North American F-51D C/N 44-75452) Photo by Doug Robertson (Photo ID: AC214134)

Judging by this, I'd say make the nose a little bit rounder. Tail end looks about right, ever so slightly blunter perhaps. And one cap less.
