AE A is from a series of RCAF Spitfires (et al.) that I finished this spring [10 in all]. As I explore the site more, and discover how others work, I'm beginning to feel Henri Rousseauish [..never worked from grayscale to color; minimal use of layering; piecemeal model-like construction of drawings..]
..but I'm willing to learn - so if someone can point me in the direction of a grayscale tutorial, mui obrigado.

Beautiful Spitfire!
You may want to check your source material for the spelling of "Ballest" on one of the panels. It is usually spelled "Ballast" but maybe that's the British spelling.
-Beavis
Beavis : thanks for the heads-up re spelling - a truly Butthead move, as both you and the Oxford Concise Dictionary bear out. Sorry for the belated reply; was out of (my) country for a while...
Cheers,
B.A.
"Butthead move"
Great Work, B.A.!
Here is A EA with a snappier spinner/prop & some better highlighting. The montage is of the Spitfires that emerged from this series...
Nice set! I'd recommend adding some extra highlights to pop out the shape, but maybe this is a choice you've made? It does show the camo scheme better, I must say.![]()
Gamary - thanks for your comments & advice...I've been editing this Spitfire series for months now (w/all the indecisiveness of a true amateur).. Quelquefois il me rend fou...
Here is AE A w a bit more highlighting
I'd be careful about how the highlights are added if I were you as the upper spine just aft of the canopy looks flat sided due to the low highlight where as there's more of a gentle curve until it rounds off at the top, the same applies to the shading under the nose. Have a look at some photos (there's plenty of Spit photos)to see what they look like in the sun.
Harriers...uppy downy things.
Inkworm - thanks for the tips and advice...highlighting has been an elusive will-o-the-wisp for me - I'm very wary of overdoing it, of avoiding that 'cartoonish' effect. When I'm looking at pictures I've got to narrow my focus on certain areas...
