Re: How's my wheel coming along?

Yes, true, you must be aware of how large the wheel will be in the end.
But, centering is pretty damn hard when you have nothing to center on. Try doing this with a blank template Most of the planes I do for TW start out as a geometric shape and the wheel center isn't necessarily the center of that shape If the person who did the template/original art that you are redoing did a good job centering the original, it's no problem.
I sometimes need to beg the 3D guys to give me both sides of a wheel
I hate doing 1 sided art for a 2 sided wheel.
One tip I can add, and you hit on this yourself, is to put a file together of useful parts, like the center hub you used. Every time I create a unique detail I put it on a parts file. I have several files of little bits and parts I've made, gears, fasteners, hex nuts, screw heads, anything that can be reused. This comes in handy for doing wheel wells, landing gear etc. At least in times when you have no detailed reference or when the part is too small to do it accurately.

Re: How's my wheel coming along?

That sounds like a good idea to me. This is the first time really that I redo the internals/mechanical part of a skin. I've still got the PSD for the wheel. The internal parts like the bulkheads should be easy. And it gives me time how to figure out how the rivets should be applied because there are none on the VOID that I can trace.

Ow BTW, @ Kristorf, the green and red wingtip lights are switched on the underside of the wings. This leaves the left wing with a red light on top and a green on the bottom. Vice versa on the other wing Or the other way around... It looks a bit funny once you see it. And not all the panellines on the VOID line up correctly.
