    Silver Dope Effect

    Just a quick question here....

I just wondered if anyone had a good 'Recipe' for a good Silver doped effect for the fabric surfaces of older aircraft such as the Tiger Moth for example.

At the moment just a grey colour seems to be all that I have seen but most of these look what they are....just grey.. and too light a shade makes the aircraft look almost white....

I was thinking that possibly someone on here may have a more realistic option especially as so many light aircraft particularly from the 'Golden Era' all had Silver doped fabric flying surfaces at least.

Alternatively is there a preferred one colour to use to represent Silver doped fabric....(would appreciate RGB values if there are)

    Many thanks.

    Re: Silver Dope Effect

It depends on the game engine.
You can paint some highlights to help the reflective look.

Also I tend to give the grey a more blueish look, especially the upper surfaces.

I'd also add a little bit of noise to the gray to simulate the sprayed effect, which I think makes the difference between dope and bare metal.

The ultimate thing is when the game supports reflection maps: http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/foru...tion-maps.html

    Re: Silver Dope Effect

Thanks for the reply Serval.....forgot to mention that I am repainting for FS2004.

Your tutorial was an interesting read and has given me a few ideas especially for metal surfaces....the 'noise' tip sounds good too.

Be interesting if there are any other Silver Doped Fabric suggestions out there.....meanwhile I will have a few stabs at different shades of grey etc to see what happens..

    Regards.
