Nice profiles man! But perhaps its an idea to keep them all in one thread? Right now you are cluttering up the subforum![]()
Here we go!
Based on new research gleamed from 8th Air Force Fighter Group - Littlefriends.co.uk, in addition to other sources, this profile depicts "Speedball Alice", one of the many aircraft assigned to Major Donald H. Bochkay during his career with the 363rd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group. This P-51C, modified with the installation of a Malcolm hood, sported Bochkay's signature "Winged Ace of Clubs" in addition to five victory marks and the serial number 42-103041. Major Bochkay flew various incarnations of "B6-F" throughout his tour of duty, however this specific aircraft was lost on 8 March 1944; its pilot at that time, Lieutenant William W, Gambill, ended up as a POW, dying in prison before the war's end.
Heh, sorry about that...was actually thinking of doing that - after this one got posted.
Here are a couple more profiles for you:
P-51B "Shellelegh" 354th FG
Flown by Captain Kenneth H. Dahlberg with the 353rd Fighter Squadron, 354th Fighter Group as part of the 9th Air Force, this aircraft saw action throughout the spring and summer of 1944, presumably moving to bases in France along with the rest of the Group.
P-51B "Buzz Boy/Miss Heck" 355th FG
Assigned to Lieutenant William G. Burlingame when he flew out of Steeple Morden with the 358th FS/355th FG, this aircraft was lost on 28 August, 1944. The pilot at the time, Lt. William W Tolby successfully bailed out and evaded capture, returning to friendly lines and, presumably, to active flying with the 358th.
Nice profiles, Sean! If you remember my comment concerning the canvas effect, I think it looks OK on OD-coloured Mustangs (perharps because it doesn't show as much, dunno).
I've got a book on the Fa 18..interested ..luverly lines on it!
