Once you have stood behind a F-4 Phantom with old smokey J-79's for about 20 minutes you will know that world war 2 aircraft just don't cut it. Probably due to the brain damage caused by inhaling exhaust fumes for 20 mminutes :P
Nah, I'm with Supah on this one; modern jets suck for profiling. Get it? Jets *suck*?
But nah, not really into the Plastic Bug.

Err, okay...
*backs away slowly from Supah...*
lol, yer that'd be the fumes. i'm in the same boat there. i work on the RAF's Hawks for a living it must be that Jet fuel scent that does it, for a ww2 aircraft why not try the Me163 'Komet', rocket power!![]()
I once had my head in an F-4 Phantom afterburner. It was not running of course.![]()
Beautiful work! I especially like that underwing shading.
Only suggestion is to give the Mustang its proper airfoil shape at the wingtip. The Mustang's laminar flow airfoil had its maximum thickness way back on the tip chord, with a cusp-shape on the rear. Good photo:

Look foward to more of your work!![]()
Well, I had a go at reshaping the wing shading...probably not "quite" up to par, but there you are. Anyway, here's another pair of Mustang profiles for you:
"Shy Ann"
This P-51B Mustang, serial number 42-106934 and bearing the name "Shy Ann" was assigned to Lieutenant Jerry P. Bush as he flew with the 503rd Fighter Squadron, 339th Fighter Group. This aircraft was lost on 5 August 1944 while being flown by Captain Frank M. Stillwell.
"SHOO SHOO BABY"
This P-51B Mustang, serial number 42-106447 and dubbed "Shoo Shoo Baby", was assigned to Lieutenant John C. Howell who flew combat missions with the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group. Though this aircraft started its career with a factory-bult "birdcage" canopy, it was at some later date retrofitted with a British Malcolm hood, its radio mast being replaced by a simple whip antenna. It is unknown what became of this aircraft, however Lt. Howell would later be assigned a P-51D, which would bear the same nose art.
I should point out that the reason this profile doesn't have the windscreen-mounted mirror is because it's absent from both known reference photos. There was a bit of trouble trying to figure out what serial number this was supposed to have, as anyone who surfs the Paint Schemes forum on the Zoo knows...![]()
I think you've made a small mistake in the tail number: you've drawn (4)4-106447 (instead of 42-106447) which is not a valid P-51 serial number if I'm correct.
I've always been a big P-51 fan, and I participated in the Mustang! website a long time ago. Yours are among the best P-51 profiles around.
BTW, what is the Zoo?
The 'zoo' is a reference to the IL2 sim forums hosted by UBIsoft. If you are not familiar with this site, it has a many year reputation of member behaviour which has cause this nickname 'zoo' or 'UBIzoo' to come along.
