Aaargh... I'm looking forward to those days. I have to make efforts to keep my files as small as possible. Maybe when I get some extra RAM for my 486/33... lol...400 plus layers .... I remember those days .... nowadays I average up to 1000 layers
But then, I don't believe the way I work would necessitate that many layers. I guess we all have our techniques.
Jeez I thought 400+ layers was a lot, obviously not around here, lol how do your machines run when these are open, I've got 2g of ram ( I feel for you Gamary) and it takes forever to load, so I usually draw each section e.g. wing/fuse/canopy interior etc in different files then flatten them and add each as I progress, as seen below in my latest update.
Do you guys think I am going to hard on the grime and paint chips?
Next up working datail into the windscreen/canopy and getting a start on the tail.
cheers
James
I think your paint chipping is good - it's easier to underdo it than to overdo it, mind you.
The wing on the top drawing lacks the level of weathering of the fuselage, but you've corrected that on the lower drawing. Don't forget to make the tire dirty. I would also add some reflection material to the canopy: this will enable you to "shape it" more. The Spit had a nice rounded canopy which deserves the extra work.
Keep up the good work.
As for the RAM, I have 480 Mb (512 - 32 for the video card ...). When I started I only had 256 (-32). Maybe I'll ask for some more RAM for Christmas. I think I'll blackmail my fian??e: another 512 should be cheaper than that ring I just bought her...But if it makes her happy, it's worth the money.

hi GFR,
very nice job, glad you work the same as me, doing each section then joining them, see Gamary, i am not the only one.
just one point, your underwing is to flat you need to curve your panel lines a little more, not to much as it was a very shallow curve, also, when doing roundels or lettering for your underside, do them normal, then deform them until they are correct, then warp them to give them the same curve as the wing.

Was just looking through Jesters T-34 thread (amazing, I have never even considered welds until now) and thought I would add the only attempt at armour that I have ever made. I have placed it in this thread as I don't think it is worthy of one it's own, I have never gotten around to finishing it, and probably wont, as its relatively small in scale, compared to what I am doing now. Might re-do it in a larger scale next up, maybe even add welds. lol
I like that this forum is not restricted to aviation themed profiles![]()
Those welds were the brainchild of one Sparty72 the other half of Phoenix-Art, he's a clever chap that Sparty. Your XIV is really coming together too, very rich but not over done, I like it very much. I bet the Tractor and 88 could be updated rather well after seeing your later work.![]()
Jester, Do you feel up to revealing the secrets of creating welds, or would revealing them create some kind of international incident?
I really would like to know how you guys go about creating them, even though most people would never notice them.
