Re: New Gal on the Block

Early Bird is way ahead of me. I get the line drawings done in Illustrator and then drag it over to Photoshop, but I haven't a clue what to do from there and I have a TON of profiles lined up! Anyone know where I can find a step by step tutorial for beginners???

You are a lot further ahead than I am New Gal. I have a LOT of profiles lined up to do. I get the line art done in Illustrator, drag it over to Photoshop and then I'm lost. Does anyone know a good step by step tutorial for beginners?

Did you take a look at these:
    How to make profiles:
    Simmers Paint Shop - Profiles

    Various things done in Photoshop:
    Simmers Paint Shop - Photoshop
Most might be based on makings skins, but the tricks are just the same for making profiles.
But you have to make the 3D shape with shades and highlights much more then with skins

The Novice's Guide is a delightful page I've come across before. It is a nice reminder not to take ourselves too seriously!

Otterkins, just keep loging in to this forum and go back over the early posts. That's the first thing I did when I discovered this wonderful site and its participants. I spent two days pouring over the past forum posts and I picked up a lot that way. You also see the progression of pics and the way different people work. The tutes are great too.

This is a start, but still involves a lot of stumbling around. Too much text and not enough explanation. Thanks for trying though!

Re: New Gal on the Block

i learned my own style, most people here start with a black and white line drawing, yes i'm the same at this point but my fuselage shapes are theit own individual raster layer, i re-draw everything after then, the real nuisance is in the details, have you ever tried finding some of the text on a greek F-104 or a Belgian Magister seriously though you'll develop your own style and way of doing things, and i'm only joking the details are the fun bit.

Thanks for pointing me to the Tuts, Gamary. I never would have found them otherwise since they aren't very prominently marked...either that or my eyeballs are going in both directions at once there so much stuff on here! These will come in very handy later on down the road. However, like the cartoon "How To Draw A Qat", it's a quantum leap from the first step to the last with a lot of stuff missing in between.

Re: New Gal on the Block

I never use lines as a starting point, for me its totally the wrong way to go.
I start out with as many of the basic shapes as I can and go from there.
Nothing wrong with using an overlay of lines as points on the map to check where things are, but I turn them off for the most part.

    Here is an example.

I use this method so I don’t have to go through the whole thing and delete the “outlines” that shouldn’t be there. What is the point of drawing something that you are going to have to delete later on? Its doubling your workload.
After all, what was the last object you looked at that had a hard outline around it.
If you need to define a shape with an outline, then there is something wrong with your lighting. Cuz we don’t ever see outlines with our eyes.

I hope we haven't scared E-B away. I'd like to see some more of that B-29, which was off to a very good start. We've also got to stop hijacking threads...

E-B, if you read this: we want more! (Come on, guys: start clamouring too!). Don't give up, as you've done such good stuff up to now!
