Why else do you think I'm trying to find the font? It's gotta be around somewhere!
And to think I used to draw them by hand.![]()
Adlab, several years ago I started making a vector file for all the different types of German letters and numerals. I eventually gave up. Not only is it tedious but it's as boring as hell! The lettering has so many variations to it that it would be impossible to create a font for it. From now on if I run across anything odd, I'll vector it on an "as needed" basis.

Yes, I finally managed to obtain a copy of the font. Works a lot better for my purposes for sure. If you still want those .ai file (which aren't really .ai at all which explains why you couldn't read them) and I have converted them over so you can read them. If you still want them, give me a shout and I'll zip them up for you.
I have checked the graphics on the page that was first mentioned, and they all seem to be vectors. I work with this type of format daily, it has an advantage over your standard bitmap format in that it can be blown up or reduced to any size needed without degrading the image. You could literally take any of them and plot them to size needed to paint on a full size aircraft and plot would be sharp and crisp. The drawing will also increase and decrease in size without changing the numbers of nodes used and it allows you to keep your file size small.
The cdr format is indeed Corel. It is used in the sign industry because it is vector format and adapts very nicely to vinyl cutters.

A proper font you can blow up to any size you wish without loss of detail....even in Illustrator or Photoshop. I downloaded the files at that link. They aren't even proper .ai files and need conversion. To boot they are pretty badly done. I'll stick with the font thanks.
I think it is the format that it was published in. TTF are set up exactly the same way, I know this because I have made them, you just have the advantage of typing the letter. What was done with those is the individual letter are a vector file. If you open the files in Corel you can grab entire lines of letters as a group. If you break them apart each individual letter sets up exactly like a TTF or an Open Type font with vectors between nodes. If you are using a raster set up you will recieve the jaggy lines we all know and love, anything that is not verticle or horizontal will will look like a bitmap. I opened these in both cdr and ai and they were exactly the same. A half block font (which is what that is) is only vector, there are no curves. If you use these in Corel Draw, the letters will be crisp, no matter what size you use. The limitation is the program you are using, not the format.
