Hey Damo! It looks pretty cool especially for a beginner. I'd keep the shadows and high lights you have now but add some low opacity overall shading to give more shape![]()
HI Guys,
I have been admiring some of you guys works so decided to have a go myself. Thought I would start off with something simple so here it is:
Drawn in Illustrator and painted in Photoshop.
Criticism is most welcome as I love to learn.
Cheers

A very good start indeed! Supah is dead right about the shading. You want to reinforce the shape.
Also, you might want to rework the shadow cast by the wings and the engine. The wing shadow shouldn't get smaller the way it does right there. Also, you've represented the engine shadow on the rudder but you have forgotten it on the forward engine pylon.
Mail me if you want some extra pictures showing the stenciling.
Looking forward to more!
Yes, very nice, and a good subject too! It's simple enough not to get lost in complex details and shapes, but interesting enough to have a lot of fun with. Lots of interesting schemes too. Plus the American version, which differs a little
I do agree with what Gamary says. Along with it, I would add to no be afraid to make the shadows and highlights stronger or to let them take up more space. It's round, so think round
Now, I have to ask a hard question, please don't take this the wrong way. Do you want your profile to be accurate? It's ok if not. So long as it's what you want it to be.
But if you want accurate, you'll need more accurate drawings. Those aren't easy to come by either. Many of the drawings and most of the models produced of the FI 103 are based on post war reconstructions and bombs rebuilt for testing after the war. For reference you really need to keep your eyes glued to war time photos.
As for drawings, look no further than here, an original factory drawing-
But even better, I've scanned 2 drawings for you-
The first one might be a bit distorted due to the book gutter.
Compare these with war time photos and you'll see they're accurate.
Hopefully, you won't get discouraged about the accurate/not accurate thing. Everyone here has had this problem, hell, any artist doing historical subjects does. You'll need to decide how "insane" you want to be with accuracy and detail. If you do one to go the "insane" route, you've got my support and good drawings to work from too. If not, you'll get my support at least![]()
Your drawing and rendering are really good for starts. Please do keep drawing, painting and showing your work here![]()

BTW, did you know that ram jet is basically hollow and the thing on top is just a spark plug?![]()

FAST AND BULBOUS!
Good start Damo! Keep 'em coming
To go along with BlowHards accuracy comments, you might check out the V-1 photos posted in the Gallery here.
Welcome!
I sent Damo a few pictures I have on my HD. If anybody else is interested, here it is. Nothing fancy, just different walkaround pictures found here and there.
Thanks for the drawings, BH.
Now, Damo: the ball is in your hands. Let's see that improved doodlebug.![]()
I am on it as we speak. Give me a couple of days and I will see what I can come with.
Thanks for the support guys. I really appreciate it.
Cheers
Damo
One more thing-
The Tamiya 1/48th kit
You'll notice I went to GREAT pains to get the motor shape correct but I missed the fins/motor mounts being too tall :P
FAST AND BULBOUS!
Nice work on that Blowhard.
