    Re: B-25 Mitchell

    GM,
Please don't throw this one to the back of the table. BH's sprinkling of Holy Water for shading and highlighting really brings it out.

Until John brought up the issue on the wing dihedral rendering, I never appreciated that NO ONE has done an accurate wing profile of the B-25! Just check out the work of Weal, profiles and line drawings in Detail and Scale, etc.

The problem is that the inner wing dihedral of the B-25 actually extends beyond the nacelle into the leading-edge of the outer wing per the front-view sketch that John has posted. So, rendering a side view of that area of the leading edge needs a bit of dihedral, following by just a tad on the remaining outer wing. John, I think your green line for the inner wing leading edge is misleading because of the dihedral break. This calls for a lot more study of the shape. Now here's a real profile challenge! Go to it, GM!!

Oh yeah, what Joe says, you're pretty close and it looks really good already.
Getting to this point with all the time and effort; now you need to extend a little more. That's really the hard part, those last details and adjustments right at the end.
Keep going, you'll have the best damn B25 profile out there

    Re: B-25 Mitchell

    hi guys,

after a long search, i have found that there are no plans out there that are 100% correct, attached are a couple that are close and the only profile that looks perfect, with the wing showing the change just outside the engine nacale.

sorry about poor quality of profile.

That top profile shows the wash-out really nicely! Who's is it, do you know?

    Re: B-25 Mitchell

I have had a little trouble following this thread until John posted the extra information above, now I understand completely where he was coming from, and have to agree with his original point. I reckon that its a pretty easy fix and will lift the profile right out of the page.(pardon the pun)

My guess would be that it's from an Osprey book from the typeface used. The group would be appropriate for the "B-25 Mitchell Units of the MTO" book, which credits the illustrations to Tom Tullis.

    Re: B-25 Mitchell

    I've started reworking the wing:

I'm not satisfied at all with the aircraft's lighting and I should really start over from scratch. Problem is I'm sick and mostly I have to get this one over with quickly so I don't know how much I'll be able to rework it. Hopefully I can get it to something acceptable. Right now I feel like trashing the whole thing so the wisest thing would be to go do something else and go back to it tomorrow.

As it is now the change in dihedral is not obvious - I'll try to make it visible, but that might be a bit of a challenge. One day, I'll have BH's talent for shape definition.

BTW, that profile is indeed from the Osprey MTO B-25 book, but it's not Tom Tullis. It's Jim Laurier. He's done the only good B-25 profiles I've seen yet.

    Re: B-25 Mitchell

After going crazy on the shape of the Su-47 Berkut's intake, I decided to take a break and give the Mitchell some legs. Ironically, some would say, as I've only drawn Doolittle raiders for the moment, and most of these didn't use their legs for that last landing...

    Anyway, here goes:

Ah, yes. I've also added grass. When I have some time, I'll sketch a few crewmembers, colourize them and add them. Just for the fun of it. What do you think?
