    Re: P 51 MUSTANG

    now that looks nice,

the trouble with the mustang is that bloody nose! it is such a strange curve most people get it wrong, i remember that i have seen a drawing somewhere on the net, where the nose shape was captured beautifully, i did not save it, and can't remember where i saw it.
the other problem area is the rear fuselage at the junction with the tail, i think what happens here is the artist gets frightened by the narrowness without the fin fillet, so they beef it up, then it all go's wrong.

    nope!

that looks too flat this is what i mean, to get it right is just about as difficult as picking winning lottery numbers

If we are going to do this right JMSmith, we need a bit more than "looks too flat".
I know its not right, which is why I posted it in the first place (for help). Your comment sounds more like you are critiquing a female models breasts.
Lets try and be a little more specific shall we? What exactly are wrong with its breasts? Is it colour, texture, shape or are you a bottom kinda man?
If you have to, draw on it so we know what areas offend please.
I know a great plastic surgeon, so lets go to work on this horse

    Re: P 51 MUSTANG

One problem is that the fillet is not a flat part, but actually a very slim triangle when looked at from directly above. The blend with the fuselage also changes shape slightly when it meets the tail fin. I struggled with making the highlighting show that blend but finally gave it up, deciding that I work at too low a resolution to show that kind of detail.

Obviously, it's a very complicated set of shapes and curves to reproduce.

That's exactly what I was looking for! continue like this. I will prepare my pop corn and start reading again! Final result will be nearly close to perfection!

Unfortunately I know very few about Mustangs and can't be of any help. I'll contribute with next models by posting my linedrawings.

    Re: P 51 MUSTANG

    hi jester,

most definitely a breast man the bigger the better.

now back to the profile, front fuselage, top edge from windscreen to spinner, this is a very complex curve, and very very hard to get right, later i will post some images to show my point.
