This beasty is remarkably similar to the British Provost, BH, so you weren't as far off as you thought!
Notice the absence of wings so the student pilot has less chance of hurting himself.
That conjures up a vision of a flock of wingless Winjeels trundling around the airfield in a traffic pattern and periodically chewing off each others' tails.
Or is it just me?
