Hi guys,
The initial Tucano thread was lost in the server crash so I'm creating a new one. (BTW, ratfugel, would you mind reposting yours, or adding it to this thread?)
I've added some more of the nitty-gritty details that nobody will ever notice and this is the final result:
All I have to do now is to select a specific aircraft to depict.![]()

Yeah I also noticed my Embraer Super Tucano A 29 had gone down in flames. However, our good friend Vectored Thrust had been good enough to send me some better pics than I already had, so I have modded the original image a bit. As you have already said, this bird has an awful lot of tiny details. I still think it's a good looker, even though IMHO Short's have done their best to spoil it. I have started a two seater AMX, using my own drawings again, since there's lots of incorrect stuff around. During my digging I found that lots of parts for the AMX are interchangeable with the Super Tuc. Keeps the costs down I suppose, if you are trying to run an airforce.

As far as I can tell, the A-29 Super Tucano is quite different from the T-27 Tucano (Embraer or Shorts version). And indeed, the original T-27 is the better-looking of the lot IMO. The Shorts S-312 is already messed up a bit and the A-29 looks like it's been taking steroids or something nasty.
Here's my first completed EMB-312F, from the French AF flying school at Salon-de-Provence (EPNAA 05.312):
I would like to draw a brazilan Smoke Squadron bird, which will give me a chance to work on glossy schemes (i.e. study Grubby's technique and try to learn from it.)![]()
Wow,that's quite a delivery! From what I hear the old Tucano was a bit of a handful. Not to mention the pilots getting fried in that greenhouse on top! (I've looked hard but I can't see any tomatoes growing in there, you must have missed them).

Here's a quick and dirty attempt at the glossy paint scheme. Feedback is welcome!

Very tricky to show a deep gloss on that particular scheme. If you look at the Airliners site, it seems to show reflections best as a three-quarter view. If you really want to see gloss schemes on a Tucano, the RAF already have a beauty on a Short's machine, although the guys at Linton on Ouse paintshop seem to have different ideas for this year's shows. (I nearly threw up when I saw what they had in mind).

Well, before I even attempt to draw the Shorts S-312 version, I have to finish the original Brazilian T-27, which has some minor differences with the 312F (mostly antennaes, depending on the timeframe).
Here's the WIP on the EMB-312/T-27:

Hi Gamary,
You're on the right track. Trouble is, I'm not too sure what I do myself!
I've done a quick overlay on your drawing. I'd normally drop this back to about 50% opacity, but I wanted it to stand out over your original highlight. I've dropped it over one of your grey machines as well.
I run my gloss highlight from about 1 o-clock to 3 o-clock, if that makes sense. So in your case, I'd bring the top edge down a bit and drop the lower edge to around half way. I run the lower edge at around where the reflection of the horizon would be if the plane were chrome.
This is just a rough highlight I have done, too. I would normally take a lot of care "bumping" it around panel lines and sweeping it around rivets and hatches and making it quite smooth.
I hope this helps, Gaetan.
Grubby.
