Amusing what-ifs. Actually, purchasing the A-4 was considered by the French Navy at a time but that never happened. The F/A-18 was also considered as an interim solution between the F-8 Crusader and the Dassault Rafale (talk about a technological gap between these two designs!). Dassault heavily lobbied against that, fearing that such a purchase might jeopardize funding for the Rafale.

I´m not quite sure that i get the designation FJ-1...that´s surpose to be a Fury !

But, had the USN adopted the P-51, its designation would have infact been FJ-1. These are "What-ifs" after all.
