I like it but I have the impression the lower part of the airplane is (almost) solid black. Have you checked your screen calibration? I did mine recently and I can see all of the tones on the lower bar here on SPS so I think I should be OK.

Maybe try using a lighter shade of grey? I'm having the same problem with the Lancaster.

Yes, dark airplanes are a pain in the neck. When I did the SR-71, I remember that I used a grey that was rather light. Not nearly black at least. It's about the only way to shape the bloody thing.

Monitors are a pain as well, the colour at the top of my screens are perceptually different to the bottom due to the angle I'm looking at them, does my head in and sometimes wonder if there was a point to the old CRT monoliths

+1. Even though I don't miss the huge footprint of my old CRT, it was a fantastic screen. I also have that problem of colours changing according to even slight angles.

I guess if I sit about 10ft away from one of those ipads then the variation between top left and bottom right of the screen will be so small as not to notice.

Next time I'll only get one monitor and a small one at that but consult JM first! If you could also construct a rig which I could attach to the monitor and place my head in I would appreciate it.

I wouldn't give him such ideas if I were you. You have no idea what you're getting into.
