Re: First profile - Hetzer (WIP)

Effing fantastic! Splendid job! It's really hard to believe this is your first profiling experience.

Now tell us all how you make the mud. Pleaaaaaaaaase!

Yeah, I get it now. I thought it was two tone green. It still looks a little green but I can tell it's not just dark green now. If you still want to make it look more black without darkening it you could try adding some red to that color. Of course all black has some kind of cast to it in the real world. I'm against going completely desaturated on something like this. You could ad blue, yellow or red, and blue and yellow would get you more green-ish. The red would tie into the dirty effect at least. Just enough to warm it up a little.
I agree that the red primer would probably not be it. I think that usually shows up much darker both in B&W and in color photos.
    I learned something new today

Those vehicles had about seven different types of idler wheels, I made most of them already
And different road wheel bolt patterns too right?

It's not. It's my first VEHICLE experience.

Some time around I decided I need to be more fluent with Photoshop and realized a profile would be a very good way to familiarize myself with some of it's features I knew little about.
I started with aircraft. First one was MiG-15, It was going good, had a nice metal finish on this one, but one day I accidentally saved psd. with all layers merged. Didn't have the backup file, noob mistake, I know, but these things happen
Next attempt was De Havilland Sea Vixen, but it turned out to be too difficult for a beginner with its complicated curves. It was an uphill battle so I quit it at some point
The third try was Me-163 Komet, but at this point I realized vehicles are going to be my thing. At least for a while. So Komet was halted.

Anyway this is actually the first profile I got this far (read - almost finished).

It still looks a little green but I can tell it's not just dark green now. If you still want to make it look more black without darkening it you could try adding some red to that color. Well, I know its still greenish, but I think its ok, black paint was applied over the green base, which was not 100% dry, so it could end up with a shade like that.

different road wheel bolt patterns too right
Yeah, and different stowage boxes, these are a nightmare, each Hetzer I see on a photograph appears to have a different stowage box...
That's the pain in vehicle profiling - many variations, field modifications, etc., no two vehicles are the same.

"Almost finished" You'll fit it well around here.

Its some kind of profiling mantra usually said after working late at night.

Yea, the profile is NEVER finished!

Now tell us all how you make the mud.
You're going to cover one of your fine aircraft with it?
Believe me, they look better without it

Are you calling me a noob? I do this on a regular basis.
