Whoa Vig! Did you build that drum kit?!

Really nice looking. The only item that I might comment on... I'm not sure about actually... is the cymbal. From my time visiting music stores I seem to recall that cymbals had a slight sparkle to them. Maybe those I saw were just polished up for display though.

Not a drummer, but a pianist and (attempted) guitarist.

Yep! I've been building it from scratch for the last two weeks. It's a representation of my first drum set, bought c. 1966. Boy, do I wish I had that back.

The cymbal texture (really, a bump-mapped procedural) is not quite right yet, but it's close. Modern cymbals are much shinier than the old-timers. I still use cymbals from the 60's and some of them have developed a deep bronze-green patina.

Very cool! But Rogers drums? I haven't seen a Rogers kit in years
You better have a Ludwig Speed King bass drum peddle

Yep, Rogers was a great brand in the mid '60's - Buddy Rich was an endorser - but the family ownership was bought out by CBS/Fender. The corporation didn't really understand that drums were musical instruments and that talented craftsmen were needed to build them. It moved the plant to California, breaking up the close-knit team that had been responsible for the high quality of the product and replacing it with unskilled line workers.

After an even more disasterous move to Mexico, the brand was done and there was virtually nothing left to sell but the name. This was picked up by a large music store that marketed very cheap imported drums under the Rogers marque. Happily, the music store recently sold the name to Yamaha, and maybe they will resurrect the brand.

Yeah, heard about them but wasn't powerful enough for what I wanted to do. You know everything with me has to be industrial strength. Keep up the good work. And if you see Hot Space around just clobber the git for me.
