    anything better tan bright??

    #1.
I have been working on a template for over 3 months lately bright has been acting up I get a different result each time I compress.
the colors are now changing. All I did was add more layers but no tex filters or new color. Its driving me nuts. is there an alternate to bright??

    1) I've seen issues some years back where BRIGHT would have a hard time compressing textures that had a very wide range of colors in the template palette. The most common result was odd colored banding appearing, where there simply was not enough coloring to simulate shading.

Is this the kind of thing you are seeing?

    2) Imported vector art will be limited in resolution by the size of the template in Photoshop you import it into. For example, if you've got a template in Photohsop that is 1024 pixels square and paste a vector layer in, that vector layer will be converted to a 1024 resolution pixel art when it's saved as a BMP or JPG (or any non-PSD format).

While you can have the vector art as a layer in Photoshop, it will be reduced to pixels when you save it as an image file.

The trick is to import it in Photoshop at the resolution you need.
Then you don't have to rescale, which might give loss of quality.

You can sharpen things again in Photoshop with the Unsharp mask filter.
Set the second slider to a low value like 0.3 and the first one as high as you like (watch the preview).
Also the first slider on a low value and the second one on a high value might give a result you might like.

You might want to try saving as GIF 256 colors (no transparency), then open the GIF and resave as BMP.
That way the BMP is saved in the same pallette as the GIF has.
It at least gives better result then ordinary BMP. I hope it will be better then the results you get now.

well yes kind off, not sure what you mean by banding but basically I was using
RML 75 and it turned dead grey, nothing close to rml 75 and my greens went to the grey side also.
This template im making is very very heavy
perhaps I will have to merge some layers or repaint my colors again?
I will have to play around with it... I was hoping for some high tech alternative to bright .

just to make sure I understand. Save my skin template as GIF and then reopen it and export it to bright for the bmp?
    Thanks Rave

I have it on trial. could you explain the steps as how to properly save the work I have in illustrator (what format) then what I need to do to get it into photo shop. I see some raster selection in illustrator do I use that?
and when I open the file in photo shop it says rasterizing and I have an option to change size is this when I set it to 1024 or what ever size I need?

    Re: anything better tan bright??

Photoshop can read AI formats (see our AI format markings)
While you open it in Photoshop you can choose the resolution. like 300 dpi.
You have to open it once to see how many pixels you get at say 300 dpi.
Then calculate how many pixels you want. Say it's 3096 pixels big and you need 1024 pixels, then you do 3096 / 1024 = 100
So you actually need to import the AI file at 100 dpi.

Same goes for the EPS format.
