    Re: P-51 Mustangs

Gaetan Marie's British one is the only one I've seen recently.
And that's a pretty ugly one... (One of my very first drawings!) I will ultimately do all Mustang versions for Mustang! and I rather like the P-51H too. But the P-51B/C and Allison-engined versions will most probably come first. The P-51H is to the Mustang what the very late mark Spits are to the original design: they've been on a hormone/steroids diet.

By the way the 56th fighter group flew P51Hs(I believe they were replaced by P80s)
Yes they did, and they even had an aerobatics team. Check this on the old website (scroll to bottom of page). Always thought it was ironic that THE P-47 group would end up with Mustangs.

GAMARY AND JARINK I LOVE YOUR WORK KEEP IT UP. I REALLY LIKE THE PACIIFIC MUSTANGS. ETO MUSTANGS GENRALLY GET MOST OF THE ATTENTION BUT THERE WERE ALOT OF REALLY BEAUTIFUL MUSTANGS IN THE PACIFIC AND CBI.

Thank you. I will be getting to the PTO ones later on. MTO ones are nice too, mind you.

    Re: P-51 Mustangs

I have a few; more will be in the pipeline soon. I'm mainly working on planes from the 20th ( ETO ) and 506th ( PTO ) Fighter Groups right now. I'm also starting to research and plan out some 325th ( MTO ) Fighter Group profiles as well.

These profiles are from an earlier version of my template; they will be updated!

Hey Jarink what is the large antenna on the front underside of the Pacific Mustangs for? I've been trying to figure that out. I've only seen it on the very long range escort Mustangs. By the way Bad Angel has to have the most interesting kill tally of all time. Especially the US flag for the C 47 Louis curdes shot down. Does anyone know of any one that makes 1/32 decals for Bad Angel?

It's the normal VHF antenna that's usually positioned in front of the tail. Most Iwo Jima-based P-51s had a special homing radio with twin antennas placed on the back deck instead.

Thanks, I knew they had the double antennae on the spine but I had never seen the lower fuselage one until I bought osprey's book on the subject of extra long range escort units. So did the P 47N have an extra antenna too? (I answered my own P 47 question)

    Re: P-51 Mustangs

I've been doing some work on a B/C template...finished profiles soon!

    Natural Metal

    Camo

    Thick antenna

    Thin antenna

...which brings up a research question. According to what I have found, P-51s in the ETO did not use the long wire antennas. To more easily coordinate with the RAF, the USAAF produced a copy of one of their radios, called the SCR-522 (pictured in my profile), which used the blade style antenna. Does anyone have any information (and more importantly, pictures) about what type of radio was used by P-51s in other theaters? I'm assuming it would be an HF set due to the antenna.

I understand this radio issue only applies to the B/C models. The D used the SCR-522 as standard equipment.
