Best places to ask for Mustang-related questions is the MustangsMustangs forum. People like Martin Kyburz know everything about 'em. Some of these guys drive me crazy with their P-51 knowledge.
The drab B/C looks great. Looking forward to seeing multiple schemes represented. Cant answer your q tho.

Thanks for the tip, Gaetan. I'll dig around some over there.
In the meantime, I haven't been totally idle!
"Ding Hao" (Chinese for "Very Good")
Flown by Maj. James Howard of the 356th Fighter Squadron, 354th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force
Later on, I'll do a later version of this plane when it had a Malcom hood and invasion stripes.
Very nice choose of P-51B.
I always thought it meant "Good Luck"...but there you go.![]()
"Second To None"
very nice job mate![]()
Sooo nice!![]()
OK, it's official. This thing is making me insane.
"B" main gear door, even though in most of the pictures I've seen it isn't in the down position. This is going to have to be resized down to about 1/3 the current size to fit the rest of my profile template. That, or I resize the template up.
The left side is the front, by the way. One interesting thing I learned about P-51 gear doors is that the diagonal metal plate is there to protect the door from the tire when the gear is retracting.
I have another technical drawing; the "D" door is next.![]()

Ooooh! That is sweet!!
Some kind of great!I took the liberty of cross-checking your airplane and gear door lines against Charlie Neeley's "B" drawings and they check perfectly-- Jarink's got the best P-51 B lines!
Not being a Mustang guy (I'm in Supah's jet camp) I do have a question: I notice that the gunsight location in Charlie's drawing for the "B" is more forward and on top of the anti-glare panel of the instrument panel rather than protruding from the panel. Did the installations change between the "B" and "D" models? I just took a quick look at the P-51 SIG site http://p51sig.ipbfree.com/index.php? where they have tons of photos of canopies/K-14 gunsights/ etc. and can appreciate that there were a large number of in-field modifications to gunsight installations done by ground crews. Thanks for the great art!!
I might be wrong, but I believe that depends on the gunsight used (gyro K-14 or older K-9). Of course, the different shape of the windshield between B and D models would also show it a bit differently.
