Re: Fire up the band, I have actually finished a profile (almost)

Obviously to anybody that has been following this thread, I've been having a long like(never love) loathe relationship with this project, and as I get to a stage where I like how it looks I'll churn out a few profiles like these.

Then I'll inevitably decide that I want to rework it, like I have since these.

Putting them out there for posterity, I doubt that this will be the last time that you guys see versions of the below work.

In no particular order of completion or completeness. Just looking at them now there are a multitude of things that bug me, time for a lay down!

I'll get 'em right on day...

I hate to be the one to say this bearing in mind how hard you've worked on it but Big Beautiful Doll profile is all wrong, last time I saw BBD it was somewhat shorter and in a hole just west of the runway at Duxford with a bit of Skyraider tip in the rear fuselage!

Lovely texture on them though, probably already covered somewhere in this thread but is it just a load of noise and texture on a few layers?

    GFR,

    So absolutely beautiful

I'm struck by that large nose-down angle of the drop tank. Was that representative??

GFR (and Jarink and GM) please help me undestand the angle of the wing tank. Pages 5 and 7 of this thread show different angles, and I'd like to know why the tank would be carried in such a nose-down position. Looking at profiles by other artists, I note many have almost level attitudes, others have nose-down positions. Did this vary with missions, tank size, or what?

    Thanks

Jeez here I was thinking you were about to rip into my work.

Was a real shame tho, with its Australian connection and all.

As for the "noise and texture" its all just brushes and various blur filters, I draw digitally exactly the same way that I draw using traditional methods, there are no secrets other than nutty persitence, you only need to look how far this profile has come for better or worse.

Looking at the reference images that I have, a case can easily be made for both angles, but if you are crazy enough to look back through this thread you will see that I got a fearsome dressing down on the matter from John, and have been too frightened to draw them in a level manor ever since.

Can't give an official USAAF answer I'm afraid. But John did tell me otherwise.

Thanks, but I have my doubts, wood for the trees and all that.

If there was something to rip into I would but despite your self depreciated opinion of your work I'd listen to the others.

I assumed that would be the case but am always interested in how others have achieved these effects and how I can improve mine, nmf has to be one of the hardest looks to get right and these do look dirty, weathered but still reflective.

Same : SUPER EXTRA NICE !
It's the metal finish that impress me the most.
Also , going through the thread again , i can see you changed the chin shape .
Your earlier Ponys profiles had a kind chin shape you see the more often on P-51s profiles. These last ones have an angle from the wheels door to the chin…
Never noticed that before. You know your subject.
