The drop tanks were actually made from paper. One guy in the village in South Germany were I grew up remembers cutting a "cockpit out of them and using them as a makeshift canoe.
Sank pretty fast he told me.
Its pretty much how I thought it was, glad to have it confirmed.
Now I'll have to draw a second set of tanks or maybe I'll just draw PTO airframes from now on and ignore all the pretty ETO versions...or... maybe I'll just delete drop tanks altogether.
I'm glad you were finally able to get an answer to a question that was bugging you (and me) even if I'm too lazy to seek out the answer for myself.
Now lets see the results of this hard work.![]()

FAST AND BULBOUS!
Thanks for the info, Joe. I'm also surprised it's never been covered.
@GFR: No, you don't get to ignore the ETO ones. We want more! In the worst of cases, just forget the tanks!![]()
Tanks a lot? heheheheeh
FAST AND BULBOUS!
A little diversion whilst I sort a few of my more problematic profiles.
These are easy from here on in.
Beautiful!![]()
GFR, your series of Stangs is just superb! Congratulations on a world-class job
I've drooled over every one of these profiles, and would offer a suggestion for your consideration on this one:
I think you've changed your shading scheme (lighter) on the bottom wing root area immediately behind the landing gear door on this one and at first blush it appears that some type of pylon is under the rear lower wing.
Looking foward to some Pacific birds with the 110-gal "drooped" tanks!
