Re: Fire the band, I have not actually finished a profile (not even nearly)

as Heli said regard the highlight on the cowling, i would remove it and let the shadow define the shape,
the texture on the aircraft is fine, this bird would been completed in OD and had the paint removed, so the texture is fine for that

That'd be because the shape of the cowl tapers that way from the wing root to just above the bottom of the spinner as it bends upwards and doesn't actually run perpendicular with the bottom of the airframe. At least that's the way I see it.

Anyway Its a moot point as I was never particularly enamored with it and have deleted it going forward. Its why I like to put WIP's here it helps me decide whats does and doesn't work, its like throwing mud against a wall and seeing what sticks.

    fascinating profiles you have drawn.
Only the gloss on the radiator cover underneath the wing is exaggerated.
Here's shadow ... whence is this intense light coming?

And forgive me for my criticism!
Too bad that you do protect your small profiles with such a stupid watermark!

    Bye
    Heli
Sure it might be exaggerated, but you need to go have a look at some images of P-51's the very same effect is nearly always present, I'm assuming that its reflected light from the wings.

I know that you are not a fan of water marks, you make that pretty clear pretty often, but to call it "stupid" is a bit much don't you think?

I don't know about you Heli, but I for one don't really appreciate seeing my work (no matter its size) reproduced without credit. The watermark makes it just a little harder to do so, and if it is, it remains recognizably mine.

As for the texture its far more evident in period colour images than in B&W which seem to wash the effect out.

    Cheers for the feedback guys.

    Hi Giant Flying Robots

I can understand you very well
But, by a watermark across the image-only drawings or photos, I save do not get into my computer.
They are practically forgotten tomorrow ... without advertising effectiveness

I could find better if you could show your pictures even smaller, but with several large cuttings

    greeting

    GFR,

Your NMF is excellent. IMHO There is no "right" interpretation of this style of finish as NMF changes so much under various lighting conditions. I doubt in WW2 that groundcrew were in the business of polishing birds to excess such as we see on today's warbird circuit. Your profiles give the clear impression of NMF and that is what counts. The interpretation of reflection etc is really a presentational choice, and more a reflection (so to speak) of one's style,.

I think it looks absolutely brilliant. You even got the little kink at the top of the firewall, typical for the B/C and almost always ignored. NMF looks ace. Lovely cockpit details.

    Sterling job!

    Thanks, that's high praise.

I believe it may have been you that pointed out the "kink" earlier in this thread, so thanks again!

all profiles are work of art in its own right. those of GFR make my heart run a bit faster. That's love
