DAMN THOSE A BEAUTIFUL! These go into the PERFECT category!![]()
Did a little re-work on this one just before the great hard-drive meltdown of 2012.
Used the TFC example as the primary reference resource for the earlier version as I could not find any images of it with the full set of stripes.
Like a Zombie my threads refuse to die!

FAST AND BULBOUS!
The work is great. Really.
But I see you have the same issue as I do on some MiGs: the dark main wing underside coincides with olive drab fuselage so the wings are not look so distinct as they do, for example, on your Mustangs... Of course it's not your drawback... I wish we all had solution for this...![]()

Mangas, I think its a consequence of the shape of the wing tip and the way that it curves up from underneath obscuring where most of the shape of the airfoil seems to be on the top of the wing. Its the same issue when dealing with the leading edge, most of the shape is obscured.
It could also be because of my preference for strong dark shadows and undersides.
I could possible fudge it by adding a little more volume and highlight to the wingtip, but its pretty much how I see it as it is.![]()
I think they look superb but the shading on the checkered cowling looked a bit better on your earlier example, it looks a bit flat on the latest version.
yugoslav Thuderbolts maybe?
D version![]()
Unfortunately I'm not quite ready to get back into the "Bubble top" Thunderbolts, or those with a NMF, when I do I'll make sure that a Yugoslav version is at the top of the list.
Do you have any period images of the camo version, as Its always my preference to work from those rather than somebody eases interpretation.
Hi, GFR!
The P-47 photos of YuAF are, in most cases, b/w and blurry. The first one I found somewhere on web, but maybe the second (from Yugoslav aeronautical museum in Belgrade - earlier scheme) and third photo (from Technical museum in Zagreb - later scheme) will be more useful.
And just to mention that all Yugo Thunderbolts were F-47D-40RA.
Thanks Heli, I'll look into it.
Talk of the D model piqued my interest in how much work would be involved in converting the "razor" back into a "bubble top" even thought that's the way this profile was always planned I was surprised how little time it took, just 20 minutes.
Here's a rough and ready first draft, much still needs to be done...Later that is, back to Mustangs for now.
