Re: The skies are full of 109's

The only thing I would point out VC is that the soft demarcation line between the splinter camo on the upper surfaces and the rlm 65 on the fuselage sides looks too perfect could you not Roughen the line ever so slightly in Illustrator to make it a little more realistic.

Hi Clint, thanks for your comments! They are appreciated. You are absolutely correct in pointing out the demarcation line. It is too perfect and needs to be adjusted. It is also shaped funny where it bleeds over onto the tail and will need to be reworked. Still so much to be done!

I'm waiting for you to get further into this drawing, but I also find it very interesting to see how you work.

Re: The skies are full of 109's

    hi guys,

right now keith as gone to bed i can slip this in, this is the aircraft being profiled, the cowling is yellow but as keith noticed yesterday there is a triangle section at te rear of the cowling that is noticably darker, any one like to come up with a suggestion, keith thinks it might be new paint (not faded) anyone else!

HHHHMMM! Interesting, there is definately something perculier going on there and in need of some healthy discussion for us guys to sort out whilst VC gets on with the art.

Re: The skies are full of 109's

Do we know for a fact that the fuselage numbers were yellow ? Is there a crash report that mentioned it? Because the cowling certainly looks the same colour as the numbers but then again you could equally say it is the same tone as some of the 70/71? on the wings? Just a dark photo I think. Is it RLM 04 or RLM 27?

It looks the same tone value as the darker cammo colour, almost too different in tone to the yellow nose to be new paint IMO.

Re: The skies are full of 109's

Perhaps the yellow on the nose has been over painted a couple of times with yellow and the triangle area may have only had one coat over the fuselage 65. The cowling and other yellow areas are removable panels so easy to remove and paint/spray whilst sitting on the ground nearby (no masking of glazing needed etc). Whereas the area of fuselage with the triangle of yellow colour would have been a bit more hassle with the need to mask the straight diagonal line etc so it may have only been oversprayed (Yellow over RLM 65) the once? Therefore less yellow to cover the RLM 65 = different shade?

    The possibilities are endless?

Here is the caption for the photo:

There is something funky going on in that area... and it's not just the lighting. It shows up that way in the other photo. Right now I have that portion of the profile consistent in color with the nose and I'm debating whether or not I should alter the hue a bit. Like Clint said, the possibilities about what and why it is are numerous!

Re: The skies are full of 109's

I think it's all yellow. The dark that JM points out is only darker on the side, the top area looks the same. Notice the supercharger panel has a shadow after it showing a poor fit. It's bowed out and rounded more than the triangle area of color behind it. I'd say what appears darker is really a slightly different contour rather than a different color all together. The panel behind the supercharger and under the MG hood panel looks flatter than it's surroundings, thus it's a different tone.

Remember to chop off the top of the octane triangle under the filler cover when you paint it on

    FAST AND BULBOUS!
