@Mangas: Thanks, I'll look into. At first sight, the result seems OK but there almost always room for improvement.
@Inky: Both were flown by ECT 2/2 "Côte d'Or" in the early 1980s. Send me an email if you need info or unit badges.
Yep, all good, as good as it gets!![]()

Superb work ! I hope you will do the IIIE and VF too![]()
Yes, have to agree! Really nice done profiles!
GM, Superb work!!![]()
Thanks, guys.
I am currently working on converting the IIIC into the IIIE. The VF will follow. Did you have adequate documentation when you created your 3D model, Gaël? (Your model is splendid so I assume you did).Superb work ! I hope you will do the IIIE and VF too
I now have the volumes I and III of DTU's splendid series about the Mirage III/V, but aside from that it was difficult to find good reference and walkarounds.
For anyone who wants detailed info about the Mirage III series, French editor DTU has a fantastic book in 3 volumes. They are very expensive (from 90 to 144€ new) but they are incredibly documented. I was lucky to find volumes 1 and 3 for only 50€ a piece.
Despite the price, these books are simply incredible. I don't think I've ever seen such a thoroughly-researched book about any airplane yet.

Nice job of one of the greats, really like the treatment of that thin delta wing.
Just one thing, in your previous version you had a horizon line along the fuselage, but have now deleted it. I'm curious as to why?

Oh yesI've collected a lot of picts from the web , a lot. Some good walkaround appeared in recent years, like these on PrimePortal.com. As for scaleplans , all the ones i know are incorrect , always had to check with pictures. Also the best ref for shape and dimension is the old 1/48 Heller kit , it lacks detail of course , but the shape is just fine.
Tell if you look for something , i'll check in what i have.
Indeed , DTU books are the best documentation on these birds. I had the first one. I remember the story of each french IIIC documented in thereI remember the scaleplan to be so-so though... but the profiles (from Jean-jacques Petit ?) very good.
This specific aircraft was somewhat more weathered and not reflecting much, so I down-toned the reflections.Just one thing, in your previous version you had a horizon line along the fuselage, but have now deleted it. I'm curious as to why?
Indeed, the scale plans (by Cyril Defever IIRC) aren't that great. One of the few flaws of the book. The profiles are by Vincent Dhorne, who used to do some for the Fana de l'Aviation.I remember the scaleplan to be so-so though... but the profiles (from Jean-jacques Petit ?) very good.
I'm not criticizing Mr Defever's work, though. The plans are adequate and, having tried creating simple scale plans, I know that it is VERY hard to do right. Hats off to Otter and the few others who are so good at it.![]()
Gammy, I'm no genius at it. The key to making an accurate profile is a LOT of photos and a keen discerning eyeball. Even then it helps to have another set of eyeballs looking at the same photos (in my case Jester's) who are just as critical and fussy and pick up on the things you've missed. Trust me, no matter how hard you look you'll always miss something!![]()
