ok found it myself, looks like it was built as a A-1 before conversion, so I am guessing they left the early wheel type because of lighter all up weight of the R-1
yep,that would sound about right
will check my manuals for any indication of wheel type prior to the A-4, given that the photo I posted is of the RAF museum R-1 where the hell did they get the wheels from?? I hope you can tell me the story of this aircraft to save me searching

Thank you Clint! I have checked all my reference photographs and it seems that earlier Ju88A-5 did have the old style wheels and later built Ju88A-5 sometimes had the same wheels as also used for the Ju88A-4.
Cheers,
Thanks Simon, what do you think of the possibility that original A-1 but upgraded to A-5 retained original early style undercarriage and wheels whereas new produced A-5 had the new larger vented style? Seeing as many if not all A-1 were upgraded to A-5 there may have been a large amount of these upgraded A-5 with the small wheels?
Hi Clint! I have to say that I have not to much knowledge about the early Ju88's. I think A-1 to A-5 had the same undercarriage. The later built A-4 got a new undercarriage and different wheels. It seems that the newer wheels also fitted on the older undercarriage. Cheers
Hallo Hans-Jürgen! Hab dir eine PM geschickt!
Hi Clint! Hans-Jürgen just asked me to contact Junkers-Peter regarding the problem. That's all.
BTW: I have check all my Ju88A-1 to A-5 photogrpahs again and it seem I have made a mistake. There were two different wheels styles for the A-5, but one looks very similar to the A-4 wheel, but they are not the same. I will try to show some pics here maybe tomorrow. Cheers,
