Very very nice starting and textured. A little too bright shining for me at the moment...

Hmph mine didn't get that response

Would the finish on them have been gloss or matt, can't tell from the old photos.

That's real plywood I made a desk 12-15 years ago and I thought that texture would come in handy so I shot a bunch of photos before I cut it up

That shading was done REALLY fast, it will either be fixed up or thrown out. I spent most of my time yesterday drawing out paths and putting the wood textures in

Yes, those things were high gloss to start with, including wings and metal parts. Either they got dulled down some with age and wear or a film of dirt built up because a lot of them don't looks to shiny anymore.
Anyway, that shading is pretty remedial right now.
I do know the white used for markings was matt but I can't remember if the black was gloss or matt.

The one observation I would have about the wood texture is that for the scale of the fuselage the grain would be quite large and whilst it works with a little artistic license, wouldn't it have appeared much finer at that size in real life?

Easier to go with a painted version! I was asking about the shading for my meager effort

    Re: Albatros D series

This is going to be fantastic work, you can tell already.
Lighting takes me about 6 attempts for me to get to the point at which it will do, another 6 after that and it starts to look how I want it. It looks like you work in a similar way BH, get it on there and fix it as you go along. I think you need a foundation just to give you an idea of what the thing should look like?
