Perhaps a bit of Gaussian blur on those highlights and you're sorted. They're just drawing too much attention now.

I looked for info on early OD colors. Nothing! I though it might be in Monogram's USAAF/USAF color chip book.
I have a feeling, if it's there and not just my imagination, it's in this book,
The Official Monogram US Army Air Service & Air Corps Aircraft Color Guide, Vol 1, 1908-1941: Robert D. Archer: 9780914144465: Amazon.com: Books
I can't even find any reference for the book I have, it's by Monogram and is a thin spiral bound book of color chips, I think all the color chips from the three full size US volumes they made. It even has Dupont British color chips in it

Don't know if you are aware (I wasn't) but Clint's given me a heads up on a potential issue with the Gaussian blur corrupting files.

Adobe Community: Gaussian Blur in Photoshop CS5 Corrupting files

I've not experienced this yet but it's something to be aware of.

Here is how to guarantee not having your work irrecoverably corrupted and ruined. Every layer and even custom brushes...

Save before you apply the Gaussian blur. Once applied, zoom right out and check your file for any strange lines or blocks of colour that have been burnt onto any and all layers. If ok save. If not close the file without saving and restart PS. Been caught twice by this.

I've had that too Clint, but not just with the blur. I just make sure I save often

Yeah I've read that it happens with other operations but it's only happened with Gaussian blur for me. About 10 times I've had it happen and twice it's ruined my file. What caught me was I was zoomed right in and applied the Gaussian blur. Without zooming back out I hit save but I didn't notice it had corrupted my file before I saved. Happens totally random.

It wasn't me.... Anyway it doesn't concern Paint Shop Pro users.

I do not know why I didn't remember Gaussian Blur.... that simplifies alot of things, I do save often so I have not had any problems with the file loss you have mentioned. I tried a couple of NMF's, notreal happy with them yet. The highlight softening helped alot.

That made a big difference indeed! These look fantastic! When will the book be relased?

With NMF you need to remember that you're seeing the world behind you reflected in a very blurred and distorted way. Each panel will need to be slightly different for the best effect. But in any case you need to have some sort of horizon going on in your reflection, and that's missing currently, making it look a shiny blue-greyish.

Having not really done many 2D NMF finishes before (a Sabre profile, long time ago), the way I'd go about it is to take an aerial photograph, blur and distort it (glass filter or something alike). Then curve approximately to the fuselage's shape (ctrl-T in PS) making sure the horizon stays horizontal in the middle. Then duplicate a few times and move each layers a few pixels around. Then select a random set of panels and mask for each layer. Something along those lines...? Perhaps all veteran 2D profilers are wildly shaking their heads now
