    WIP: F-4B/J Phantom II

Well, since the old thread I started is no longer around, guess I get to start a new one.

Did some tweaking. Been working more with paths than I was in the past. Still need to make the transition to a stylus vs. the mouse. Not finished with the shading. Wasn't satisfied with the NMF on the tail section of the fuselage, so I'm starting over with that. Greatest challenges I see in the future though are the jet nozzle and the innards of the cockpit. Probably rework the canopy too.

Definately not anywhere near Supah's work, but maybe I'll get there someday.

Dump the mouse. Mice are strictly for entertaining cats. Your work will improve by leaps and bounds as soon as you start using a pen/tablet. Wacom is best by streets.

I've never use a pen/tablet, I seem to do allright. I own a pen tablet but find them awkward and uncomfortable to use especially on the go.

Very neet subject ! Gotta love the Spook !
ThereŽs some good things in this renditions, however i think you should pay more attention to the detail. The insignia fx. take a look at a photo of any Navy Phantom and youŽll see what i mean. The overall shape is a bit off IMO. Try to use more photo reference.

IŽll be mor ethan happy to give you more pointers if you want me to. I have attached a Phantom rendition i have made. IŽll be happy to help you in any way I can. You can always catch me via E-mail webmaster@aircraftprofiles.dk

..and by the way: I use mouse too ! :-)

Also the intake is a lot flatter then you are portraying it here. I will dig around if I cant find a picture that shows the area better.

I realized after posting that the bars on my insignia were too wide. And I'll take a look at that intake.

I forgot to mention: Great to see that someone is finially make a profile of this Sundowner paintscheme ! Usually the full sundowner tail is chosen, but this one is really neet too !

Try also to check if the canopys are the right size, look a little too wide to me. Also, the outter part of teh wing looks too wide, and the horisontal stabilizer (if thereŽs such a thing on a Phantom) looks like itŽs pointing too much downward.
USS Coral Sea should be more centered between the canopy and the Vertical Stablizer.

What font are you using for the numbers and designations ? It doesnŽt look quite right in my eyes.

DonŽt mean to shoot you down, but as i said: IŽm very willing to help you with this.

    thanks for sharing

The font is to spec according the MIL-STD-2161A document (Paint Schemes and Exterior Markings for US Navy and Marine Corps Aircraft). I made and saved all the numbers and letters as Photoshop custom shapes according to those specs. Same as the lettering in my sig.
