    Re: Fw 190 A-8/R8 IV./JG 3 Hptm. Moritz

I like it. I'll let the experten comment on the camo and others but please note there are light gray marks around the profile (below the cowling, and below the rear part of the wing root). This indicates your screen is not calibrated properly, I think. You probably should look into this before going any further with the work.

This is just my $0.02. It happened to me some time ago and I was frustrated that I had let it happened and that nobody had told me anything.

    Hello everybody,

thanks for your replies on Wagner`s aircraft. JM, ironically i found the picture you posted a few days later in one of my books and indeed i had to change most of the fuselage camouflage. The brightness of the colour was caused by one of the highlight layers which was too strong. I hope the result is closer to the original than my first attempt...

    best regards to all:

    Hi Björn!

    looks much better now!

    Some more notes:

Engine: on the pics I know the engine is not really weathered. The blistering of the Colour startes were the engine ends. The gradation between RLM 76 and RLM 75 on the front is hard. Lower Engine cover was RLM 04 yellow, but washed out.

Spiral on the spinner can't be as round as you have drawn it! It's linear.

Main undercarriage covers. On the colour pics you will see that there are also red dabs of primer. You will aslo see them if the undercarriage is closed.

ETC: When the plane was capured it had no ETC

Check were your wing antenna end at the wing. For me it looks like the wrong position.

Fuselage looks amazing with the weathering! Well done.

Balkenkreuz filling was the same colour as on the fuselage at this area. (Should be RLM 74) On pics you will notive a W.Nr. plate below the right horizontal part of the Balkenkreuz.

You should add the marings for (Hier aufbocken) and angle of the horizontal tail plane.

Tail section: Check the camouflage again. Doesn't fit to the pics.

Wing guns! MK 108 had a larger diameter! Also would add highlights on the MG 151 and MK 108.

I think you have great potential. My first colour profiles didn't look like this.

    Cheers, Simon

    Hello Simon,

thanks for your reply! I made some further improvements but there are still some to do. My heart bled when i got rid of most of the shading and weathering on the cowling as i really love these effects - but the result is now closer to the original i guess.

It is amazing to me, how quickly i advanced with my techniques - just a few weeks ago i was quite satisfied with the drawing you can see at the start of this thread. I had been ill for the last week so i had a lot of time for drawing. I think the standard i reached now is the result of doing what i really, really like and the amazing help of the community of simmerspaintshop.

    Best regards:

It looks quite nice now I sugggestion if I may. Get rid of the outerlines...e.g. canopy glass, angine bulge etc...I think it would improve it a bit more...

Well, keep in mind that you should draw in a way that you both enjoy and think is right. Don't let us pressure you into drawing something you don't like. We each have our styles and preferences!

I'd say you've come a very long way in a single profile and the end result looks great. Profiles tend to get to a point where you get sick of looking at them and/or you cant see the wood for the trees. So at this stage you think you've done enough . . . but if you come back to this project in the future, I'm quite sure you will have learned newer skills and with a fresh set of eyes, instantly see where you could push things even further.

As it stands, its a great profile that captures the original quite well, well done.

This is what its all about, taking the advice given, no matter how harsh or pedantic it seems and striving to produce better work.

    Sage words.

Never consider your work finished, look at my Typhoon thread its ancient and I'll never be satisfied with it, and will forever tinker with it.

Meh, I never get tired of my profiles ... I just get distracted by other new stuff way too easily. One moment I am drawing F-104's then I see a purdy Delta Dagger so I start that and hey what's that? Cool a F-84F! hrrrm. I might have ADHD after all
