Hello Dave,
So I am impressed with your art on your technique!

I think I've got this late Johannisthal built plane ready-
I can't see the front footstep on 2183/16, pretty sure it's not there. The photo is too fuzzy to see if there is a MG spent cartridge chute fairing on 2183/16 or not. It looks like it's got the higher style front water pipe too. Not the best photo either but I was looking for a simple set of markings to put on the bare fuselage. (yes, the tail cross isn't right yet:lol )
I need more schemes for the late D.III but I'll start the earlier version next.
FAST AND BULBOUS!
The front footstep was fitted in some planes, not all of them, of the two last batches of D.III-s made by Johannisthal (600-649 and 750-799/17).
It became standard though on the D.III-s made by OAW.

Thanks Heli
Good info Elephant! My problem is finding good photosI've been pretty disappointed in what little I've been able to get a hold of so far.
Do you have any solid photos of these late (pre OAW) D.IIIs?
By the way, I put that extra step back in since it's impossible to see it at all in the photo. I doubt it's really there though.
FAST AND BULBOUS!
Dave, that's over the top work!
Sorry me I always thought they were more ellipse-like in cross-cut other than square...
Thanks Mangas
For a long time there were some inaccurate drawings that most everything else was based on. The earlier drawings are also way too fat but there was an old set of D.III drawings that show a D.V fuselage section. Aurora's plastic kit of the D.III was made from these drawings.I always thought they were more ellipse-like in cross-cut other than square...
Here you can see the shape of these BEAUTIFUL D.II replicas being built. The D.II fuselage is almost identical to the D.III-

And look at these-
Here are some drawings, although the first one is WAY too fat-

Maybe mine needs a little more rounding on the edges through the mid section?
FAST AND BULBOUS!
I have a couple of good pictures Dave...
I'll send them via e-mail, ASAP.
BTW, the second pic you posted for Mangas shows an OAW machine.
The basic shape of the fuselage keeps the same but the nose planks arrangement is different.

I'll say it is! I'm working on that right now and it's a pain!!!nose planks arrangement is different
Speaking of, any good photos of that? I've got a few but nothing that shows the area above the wing too clearly. I'm not sure if I've got it worked out correctly yet, it doesn't seem there yet.
Not sure about that stencil either. I NEED PHOTOS!!!
And, pay no attention to those maker's plaques, I haven't moved them yet!
Any pics will be GREATLY appreciated!
FAST AND BULBOUS!
Dave, you more than convinced me(btw, sorry for my English, does thick means "inacurate"?)
Taking closer look at the plane... one thing to notice: if I were you I think I'd add a slightest shadows on the fuselage for:
1. The upper spinner blade
2. The tubes that support the upper wing
3. The radiator outlets (or whatever those small metal rectangles are)...
Maybe even the front tube of the chassis... I know they shouldn't be visible much at all, but I think it's good habit to try to make at least a tiny shadow basically for everything that's protruded... Any 2D image would only benefit from it... Am I wrong?
