We're flying high / We're flying right up to the sky...
Quite hard to understand on lower altitudes, at heights over 5k it was a really challenging opponent... Actually, it's the 1st time I've made a profile of not real aircraft but of a newly restored bird...
This my 4 month work is actually a tribute to the Novosibirsk team of enthusiasts who spent 5 years rebuilding it... The main base for this project were the remains of MiG-3 №4958 found in 2000 in Murmansk region. Most likely it's a MiG-3 of 147th IAP (20th GvIAP) that was based at Africanda airfield during winter 1941/42... The plane was crash landed in that period...
My bow to the people who made this legenday plane come true. During 65 years before them nobody thought it was possible... Unfortunately, this one has native AM-35 engine that's inoperable, so it can't fly. But there are 2 others that can! (havin' Allison engine)... I'll make 'em soon too...
Unfortunately, it's like 99% (not 100%) of what I wanted... But it's only 'cause I just don't know yet all the PS technics to make everything properly... But I hope some day...
Enough words, here you go, Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 "White 1" first time displayed at MAKS (International Aerospace Exibition) in 2005:

P.S.: Special thanks to you. Yes, all of you guys who participate at this forum and from whom I study carefully trying to improve my work...
Sincere regards,
Mangas.

Looks good! You've given the wing's undersurface an interesting shape effect.

Nice work, personaly I would [prefer more light reflection, and maybe shadow on the spinner. comparing to bodu and nose looks flat.
And the horizontal tail shadow on the fuselage is correct ? just asking do not have the linedrawing here by myself, but looks smaller ...

I like it a lot.
A couple of suggestions if I may. You may have already addressed them but I'll put it out there anyway.
I think that the wing needs to be casting a shadow onto the underside intake and the landing gear. Also looking at the reference images that you have provided the same can be said of the air intake under the exhaust stakes.
And I'm getting the impression that the highlights layer(s) are above the panel lines.

Re: We're flying high / We're flying right up to the sky...
Here comes the 2nd restored MiG-3: this order was for Jerry Yagen (Fighter Factory, Suffolk, Virginia, USA). The base for this construction was the fighter found in Murmansk area - MiG-3 №3457 of 147th IAP. It was flown in September 23rd 1941 by 1st SAD Commander Michail Golovnya. While performing ground attacks near Zapadnaya Litsa it was hit by AA fire. The engine was still o.k. so the pilot made it back home & made a sucessful belly landing north-west of Murmansk...
The airframe & mechanisms were suprisingly well preserved. But the original engine was replaced by Allison V-1710. On May 28th, 2007 Vladimir Barsuk flew it sucessfully. This aircraft was the first MiG-3 to hit the sky over last 60+ years! Meet the «White 17»:

P.S.: Note the modern navigation device instead of ww2 combat gunsight in the cockpit.

I accidently deleted a few profiles from imageshack so now a few my recent posts lost their images...
Anyway, here's White 17 from previous post updated + proper colored + angled version:
