    Re: Grubby's first shared project

QUICK! QUICK! Start filling it in with paint!!!!

it's better for profiles than Photoshop
It's better for the technical end for sure, but making the profiles look like more than a flat technical rendering is SO much easier in Photoshop

    Anadc4, or anyone else;
Just in case I gave the wrong impression earlier, I'm not knocking Corel Paint by any means, it's just not something you'll find in many graphics and art studios is all. And, although I'm biased toward Photoshop, I think I can say safely that Photoshop is just a bit more of a powerful application than Corel Paint, especially if price is an indicator
But I'm not saying Corel Paint is bad for doing aircraft art or any art for that matter. If it's what you have and use and you like it, it's good enough
But I wasn't trying to badmouth Corel Paint

    FAST AND BULBOUS!

    Re: Grubby's first shared project

Nearly there, I'll take it to the upholsterer tomorrow and get some insides inside and then it's painting time!

Here's a sobering thought: I've put 30 hours just into the linework so far.

I'm doing two versions, both RAN. A matt light grey and a gloss black with reflective gold markings and a bright blue interior. That one will be interesting! I'll be after lots of advice. I'll tackle the grey one first.

The RAN has just acquired/leased three of these for training and VIP work. I think we got two from Sweden and a third one is coming from France.

I saw a 109 in the flesh at Moorabbin today. I was doing a walkaround of a Canadian 212 that is here for the fire season and this 109 spooled up and taxied off a couple of pads away. They are smoooth. Then a 206 came and landed right next to us. It's been a good day.

    See you tomorrow.

    Re: Grubby's first shared project

Blowhard, I have no idea what Corel is like. Photoshop is brilliant even when you have no idea what it is capable of. I'm using Photoshop 6 but without a manual, I have no idea what half the tools do. Wouldn't swap it for anything but a more modern version of Photoshop. But that is too big an investment for what is just a hobby.

When the time comes to buy a new computer, I'll be seriously looking at a Mac and that will mean buying Photoshop too.

    Re: Grubby's first shared project

    Hi Guys,

I've been mucking around with the trannies. They are looking a bit"graphic" to me at the moment. Any advice and feedback would be welcome!

I'll get to work on the interior and see if having something inside tones it down a bit.

    Re: Grubby's first shared project

Only comment on the glass is that it looks a bit like cellophane. The world it reflects is also a little alien. Begs the question - what should an aviation profile transparencies reflect? Should they be like a object photographed in a studio, set again as backdrop that has no defined form so nothing distracts from the object? Think that once you start reflecting things other than light in windows, you have to place the object against a "scenery" backdrop.

These comments are offered without any knowledge of how to get a convincing transparency except I do like Ugo Crisponi's work on helicopters.
