    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Bud Anderson's Old Crow while it was in Dark Olive Green/Medium Grey scheme (autumn 1944). The mechanics painted the tires with white barn paint to have them look like whitewall tires.

If I wasn't as lazy, I'd have done the 108 gallon tanks as well. But I'll do them for the second version of Old Crow, when it was striped to bare metal later on.

You really do have these Mustangs down pat. They really are excellent.

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Anderson's aircraft, but striped down to natural metal as it was in late 1944. It had partial invasion stripes for some reasons.

Now that I've done the 108 gallon drop tank, I thought: "Done with the tanks!". But, nope. I forgot the USAF also used modified P-80 tanks (Misawa tanks IIRC) on the P-51.

Gaetan, you know I like your work
just a hint..the shadind on the spinner looks too flat for me...shouldnot be the darkness from below bit higher? it was rounded...the hub.

and on the crow, the undercarriadge is somehow sterile looking..my subjective opinion..just saw it like that...dunno what may be wrong

Thanks for your comments, Peter. I rather like the spinner as it is but you may be right. I'll give it some thought.

As for the undercarriage panel, you're clearly right. i find it a bit dull but I didn't want to put to much weathering on it. I'll add some dirt and oil streaks on the next template update.

The original model (preserved in La Havana) is in very poor shape and doesn't look as good, unfortunately. I find the 51 actually looks nice in those colours.

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Nice job on this Mustang! I hope mine (If I ever do one) comes out half as good as this! if it does, I'll be happy.

Dare I say will you do some CBI theater of operations Mustangs?

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Hi Gamary, your mustang is looking really fine.

I’m back into my own Mustang project, which must be almost a year old or so.
Not that I have been working on it for a year, I just had other projects jump the gun so to speak. I don’t think it is until you start drawing an aircraft you become aware of all the details, shape and lighting. When I am close, we will crash heads, see if we can’t push this one?

One thing I did spot whilst looking through the profiles you have made there, the nose where it meets the spinner looks flat. It should be at least as round as the spinner?

I'll give that a look too, and try to incorporate Peter's remarks also. Thanks!

The template is far from perfect, and as previously said, I'm partly dissatisfied with it. However, I've improved it progressively and I'll keep doing that since it's fun.

CBI Mustangs will be done also, even though the nicer ones are earlier versions of the Stang IMHO.

Thanks to all for your feedback and comments.
