    Re: Painting a YZR500

Enough said about the blur. That makes sense
Excellent detail shots too! The noise works just fine I thing. Just enough to taste

Now you need to do a cutaway dune buggy

    Re: Painting a YZR500

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you think the noise is effective. Scanning the image closely, there are just a couple of areas that I'll erase the noise, mostly on where I want the cowl shading to be squeaky clean.

    EDIT: A cutaway dune buggy???

That makes it better, different surface effects make it all come together

    Re: Painting a YZR500

Hey Blowhard, I see your birthday in the SPS sidebar! Happy Birthday!

On this project, I've stared at it for a few months now. I fixed a little irritating perspective issue in the mufflers, but that's about it.

So I'm doing some layout ideas for the print. This is prepared at a 5:4 ratio. After watching some straight run video of this rider and bike back in their prime, I'm experimenting with the idea of a light wheelie as he cranks it coming into a straight. It's also got a mockup of the blur with a fade, so the detail is still breaking through.

The titles in the lower right may be adjusted a bit, still WIP.

Thanks, yes, until 4 hours ago it was my birthday

Looks really good! The shadow stands out to me but I don't know what I'd do different if it were mind. Maybe lighter, or a gradient...
I do like the text, that looks nice.

I'm kicking around some ideas on the shadow. Here's one that I've resketched, added some road texture noise, a quasi reflection, and a gradient to lighten it toward the front.

I like that! It blends better but it's still graphic looking and leads to the Yamaha logo great.
    EXCELLENT!

    Re: Painting a YZR500

It started out so simple. I was going to remove a slightly flat looking spot off the front brake disc. Then while looking at my reference photos, I notice the drill pattern doesn't match. Easy fix.

But the pattern layout won't align with the spoke pattern in the brake disk hub. Somewhere along the line I miscounted, there was one cross spoke too many in the brake hub that I repainted earlier. No way I can walk by the print knowing that error is in there, so I repaint it all.

While I'm at it, I went ahead and improved the metallic effect of the disc itself. Also actually drilled the holes through the rotor instead of the black dots. Here's where it stands as I wrap up before bed, still some more things to finish near the axle. I'll examine the rear rotor next, before fitting all this art into the main stack.

    Re: Painting a YZR500

A little more time to work. I only did a few small things to the front wheel area, mostly refining the brake equipment. Rear wheel got a new disc, brake caliper, and mounting hardware. Also new valve stems on each wheel.

Some details, followed by the latest print layout. Still a few minor annoyances to fix.
