    Whump whump whump

I'm off again. I have dug up a Huey profile I did a couple of years ago that now looks pretty flat and horrible. I am going to start again with it, using the original linework and rework the whole thing with what I have learned here from you wonderful people.
    Wish me luck!

Here is the old one ...

UH OH! That looks like a BIG job, even with the lines already done! But I guess any helicopter is a BIG job!
What sort of Huey? Is it US Vietnam? I don't recognize the duel gun configuration. No quilted padding on the inside? You MUST do a version with the quilted padding

I can't wait to see the progress on this one!

I really miss the sound of Hueys. They used to fly over my house a to and from National Guard bases. Now all I get is LOUD and soul-less Life Flight choppers

    Nice pics, BH, thanks.

I have done quilted interior on one of the layers, but, again, it's flat and lifeless. OMG! That was 2004! Where have the last 4 years gone?

The gun arrangement is a uniquely Australian fitting developed during the Vietnam war when the RAAF created its own gunships using a few of its Hotel Hueys. The armament was a pair of 7.62 mm miniguns on the front stations, with the mounts welded up so the pilot aimed them with the aircraft, 7 tube launchers on the rear stations and twin M60s out each back door. Theu were called "Bushrangers", Aussie equivalent to US "Outlaws".

I have read they were some of the most heavily armed Hotels in theatre.

Great info! I knew the Aussies were all over Nam but I didn't know they had their own gunships! I've seen door mounted mini guns and .50 calibers but I've never seen double M60s before. The brass (?) rocket tubes are interesting too!
WOW what a great subject! Just the D and H I take it? Or do you have Bs and Cs ready too?

    Re: Whump whump whump

It is a HUGE subject. There are just so many schemes and variations, civil and military. I could keep myself busy forever just doing Hueys.

At the moment I am just doing 205s and UH-1D/Hs. I've got some 212s I want to do too, and then a swag of Rescue 412s.

Then I will do some Bravos and Charlies too. The RAN had some lovely blue and white Bs.
We didn't use any Charlies ourselves but some Navy pilots flew Hogs with 135th AHC. I'm collecting info on them, but it seems to be pretty thin on the ground.

I don't know what the story is with the naked rocket tubes. I don't recall seeing them on any US machines.

I read that welding up the minigun mounts made them significantly easier to aim.

    Re: Whump whump whump

I've done a major update on the rotors to give them a bit of twist. This changed lovely simple rectangles and geometric shapes into much more complex organic shapes and curves. Hopefully I can qualify the shapes well when they are rendered.
It's not a patch on your wonderful engines and guns, BH, but we'll see how they come up.

I always thought we all were mad in some aspects! MY family thinks I'm nuts making all this "computer stuff" as they call it. Maybe they are right!
