    Re: Ju88A

    Clint!

Forget all colours taken from recovered planes. Colours changed in all the years!

Indeed it's a real pain with these colours and it's contrast. It's not only a question of the colours, it's also the question when these photographs were taken. (angle, time and season)

    Re: Ju88A

Thank you Simon for taking the time to compare the swatches. It sure is a difficult subject. I think i will take your advice and stick close to what i've got already and if anyone moans I'll just say well prove to me what they should look like then. Recovered aircraft can fade in time but why have the white and black stayed ok? Also another possible angle the photo below is a quite well known colourized (touched up at the time) period photo surely the colouring artist would have a pretty good idea how the actual colours looked (maybe?) looks suspiciously like the colours in the bottom swatches?

Good discussion gents there's nothing like a good RLM colours chat to fry your brain and melt your eyes.

    Thanks

I think the hue of your current colours is good, but the contrast is too big. In particular RLM 71 needs darkening.

Here's nice original colour footage. Though it's of very limited use to identify actual colours, it does give you a nice 'feel' for the camouflage pattern. Note how subtle the 70/71 contrast is to the point where you often can't see the pattern. Good shots are at 22 seconds (cowling on far right) and around 30 seconds (again the cowling).

Don't bother picking colours from photos - ever. It's all nonsense as there are too many variables to make it of any use. Try to replicate the feel of the scheme rather than stress over accurate RGB values (which may look totally different on someone else's machine).

    Re: Ju88A

I kinda see what you mean from the vid about the contrast between the two and I'll try and work something out tomorrow. Point taken about the photo's my monitor's calibration is not what it should be. I suppose it's just one of those things we will never know. I've posted the same question on LEMB and it's had 1 reply and he thought that the Simmers swatches were the best?

Cheers gents i'll post something up tomorrow with regards to the colours and then I've gotta get on with the wings.

    Re: Ju88A

In my view the Simmers swatches are too low saturation and too high contrast. Combined they don't match the right 'feel' by a long shot.
