Let's just add that the kill range for an L/70 vs. a Sherman A4 was 1000 meters. In order to knock out an L/70, a Sherman A4 had to be within 200 meters. An A2 could fire at point blank range and not penetrate the armour, though I'm sure it would have left the crew stone deaf for weeks afterwards. The Brit tanks opposing it were totally hopeless against it. A high velocity flat trajectory weapon is a really mean thing to deal with.
